Forum rules
Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

(long-winded and pretentious-sounding explanation behind the click)
Spoiler :
As I was in the middle of putting this AMV together, I started to wonder how it who might enjoy it most, what criticisms people may have of it, whether people would really "get" it... basically, I wondered how it might be received by the community. But during the few years I've been lurking here and the more recent few months that I've spent being a little bit more active in the forums and downloaded other people's AMVs, I've started to realize that it's not a matter of how it would be received, but if it's received by anyone at all. There have been more than 125 videos uploaded to the Org in the past week. No one's watching them all, and the one's that are thrown out there to swim for themselves might never be downloaded at all.

I've never been good at promoting myself but I guess that if I don't want my video to get buried and lost in the archives here, I'd better speak up and say a few things about it. And despite the fact that I put a lot of effort into this (although some people might think it looks like a simple, "I could've done this in an afternoon" video), I realize it's not perfect, but that I'd better say some positive things about it. So here goes.

I'd been wanting to make an AMV for a few years, though it wasn't until this summer that I was finally able to get my hands on the proper software to work with and a computer that was up to the task of actually running it. I started work on a different AMV, but after a few weeks' time, I felt like I was hitting the wall and needed to take a break. Then I read Aceman's thread on "Ambient Videos," and it reminded me of a few ideas I'd had for videos in the past. I soon started work on a new project and picked away at it for a couple of weeks; I've no idea how many hours I might have spent on this, and if I did then would probably better not to say. And today, after lots of little revisions and learning the ins and outs of compression, it's finally done.

You know, I'm pleased with the results. I hope people enjoy it. It's just fine if they don't, but I hope it's not simply because it's slow or too "weird" or anything like that.

There are certain ineffable feelings that I get when I watch Evangelion and I wanted to try to convey some of those in this video, although I really don't expect anyone to get the exact same thing out of it as me. Or maybe I just wanted to use some of my favorite clips and tie them together with some ambient-ish music that fit the scenes especially well. That's probably more like it.

My first AMV. Constructive criticism or simple head-patting appreciated.
