Now that that silliness is out of the way:

So in case you couldn't figure it out, the first video is a Tr00 Black Metal (ist krieg) parody. It also happens to be the first Mayhem video on the org. I made it a long while back, but I decided to release it with a "real" video since it is, in the end, a joke.

The second video is my 2nd AMV (discounting the tr00 one), released nearly 2 years after my 1st. Yeah, I haven't improved much. As it says in the video description, it's a basic AMV. I decided to drop my previous AMV project for this because: 1) The song was shorter, 2) At The Gates is seriously under-represented on the org, 3) I thought my editing skills were up to the task of making a tight-synced action video interspersed with metaphorical lyric sync passages.

Yeah right.

P.S. I know PCM is incredible overkill for the first video, however due to Satan's influence on the export, I was unable to do anything to it after it left Premiere. I had originally planned it to be a RealMedia video, however due to the technical problems and the fact that the RealVideo encoder can't do videos in 666x666 resolution, I went with a very low bitrate DivX video and WAV audio.

on the GSG vid, you really ran out of steam after 20 seconds, i thought that'd be the case there's not all that much action in the series to try and cram into a song like this.
new banzors in the making :p

An absolute masterpiece, it's not a parody at all IMO. Great original concept and awesome atmosphere.
This was terrible. I am not complaining about the simple editing, I am complaining about the lack of altering the source so that it would actually in some way fit to the mood of the audio. I'm not saying more crossfades or more dynamic action or that some scenes were too static, all of those might be details but I'm saying man that shit is colorful anime and it's still way too happy. Maybe you could've profited from that by adding Gunslinger Lolicon Doujins or something but this was way too 'normal'. Just nothing there to actually get my attention, At The Gates is still metal so I think that it should somehow be represented as a style in the visuals as much as in the audio if possible, blood and random girls shooting guns isn't enough for that at all.

I remember searching for black metal videos on the org and was shocked there wasn't even a Mayhem video. Now we have one, though I didnt finish watching it. I couldn't get into it due to that...was it supposed to look like a tv? Yeah, that anyway. Maybe, just maybe I would have enjoyed if it really was 'on screen' and I could have actually seen what was going on.

I liked the other video. But I had some problems with it. Mostly, the fact that audio and video felt disconnected in many places and that the video lacked clear editing- and story sructure. I enjoyed a few parts of it very much though (like the part with the birds, even if I'd have prefered more crossfadfes instead of hard cuts - something i found myself disliking in other parts of the video as well...but then again, apparently I have an overall disgust to these)

Shit, I thought it could escape the front page and let these travesties fade into obscurity. ;)

Do you mean the long cuts when the first verse started? All of the vocals (well, most) were meant to be lyric synced. Other than that, I wasn't really low on action material, I still had big chunks of episodes I never used.

Trust me, it was hard as hell trying to find clips of the girls NOT being happy. If I hadn't shot myself in the foot by deciding not to use effects, I probably would've used filters and such to mute the colors. The only scene in which I would consider the tone of the video completely consistent to the song is Elsa's
Spoiler :
murder and suicide
(which is really what gave me the idea for the video).

Yep. Here's my process for video capture: Downloaded .ogm (don't worry, I own it on VHS, I just couldn't dub it) -> burned to dvd -> dubbed to VHS -> dubbed to another VHS with tracking turned up -> played back on my 13" TV with a digital camera recording it -> imported into VirtualDub and used Brightness/Contrast to turn black and white.

I understand that it was horrendously awful video quality, but I tried to make it at least good enough that you could tell what was going on. However, I will admit that in some parts the static caused by the tracking almost completely obscured the video.

Wait, so do you have a disgust for hard cuts or crossfades? And as a general question to everybody, should metal videos typically use more hard cuts than fades?
