Claymore - Sonata (Instrumental Compendium)

Post by Arcwave » Tue Apr 01, 2008 12:52 am

Image

Video: Claymore - Sonata
Category: Action, Instrumental, Sentimental, Serious
Anime: Claymore
Song: I'm Listening
Artist: James Newton Howard
Creator: Arcwave

I typically don't make AMV's, but after listening to such gorgeous music by none other than James Newton Howard himself, I had to express the emotion to film. I'm an editor at a production company, so doing this was rather fun. Please enjoy!

You should consider uploading it in some other way. I'd love to see it, and comment on it, but upload it on the site please :)

OK, I fixed it. You should be able to see it on the LOCAL stream now. Thanks!

God I'm gonna sound like an ass now :S Especially since I made you reupload it.

The video was very poor quality, tiny resolution (yet the file is still rather large ~50mb). Besides this, the video was heavily interlaced, something that you ought to have taken care of.

Which file did you edit with? It sure looks like you edited with a lossy file, and forgot to work with huff/lagarith.

With that said, I can see that you're an editor since it's easy to feel you're trying to tell us a story with the clips and mood you set, however I feel the video is long, and perhaps a bit dull, although the music was beautiful :)

Technical, you have much to learn. And never show footage of someone talking, when you can't hear what she's saying :P

On a final note, I loved the concept, the idea as a whole and I love the anime :)

I agree with you 80% about the technical aspect. I didn't know the responses would be so professional. You guys seem to know what you want; which is good.

However, I could have easily rendered a progressive 24p version. I possess the knowledge and equipment to do so. Like I said, not much dedicated work went into this project... and it was difficult finding scenes without the mouth movement that I needed to portray my initial vision (the interaction between Clare & Theresa). Therefore, I think the scenes were appropriate considering the context. I've shown this to many other AMV communities and all have been very positive, but I admire your honest opinion and willingness to encourage a better outcome.

I didn't want to create a conventional AMV. My direction was to bring more of a film look set to music (if that makes any sense?). But being new to this forum and the AMV realm in general, yes, I do have tons to learn.

Thanks for your thoughts!

UPDATE: I'm thinking about going back and working with what you said about the moving mouths. I gave it some thought, watched it again, and you're right... it doesn't look very good. With some smooth looping of scenes I think I can make it work. Curse you! You had to get me in this mode now! Hehe. Although I'll leave the content mostly untouched. Cheers!
