(Poem) "How to break a heart"

Post by annyaonweb » Fri Mar 21, 2008 8:54 am

The poem is focused around the character Amane Misa. It's a short poem but it's really enjoyable (and a bit dark).

I don't think anyone else used this audio so far, in a amv. If so, i'd like to see those versions, just for my silly curiosity. If there are any made.

I'm trying to improve so opinions would be much appreciated.
Thanks ^^

p.s. A better video quality version will be up in a day, i think.

Emilie Autumn O: I love that little poem.

*gets*

EDIT:
I found Emilie through your exceptional "Gothic Poetry", Emong ^^ I love her, she's amazing.
Good to know the video paid off ;)

About your vid, I liked your concept. The poem is perfect for Misa but I think you could have done better work with executing your ideas. Masking is always cool but I'm not really liking the clips you chose to use of masking/lip syncing. They just didn't seem natural. The same goes for most of the clips on the background.

A poem is certainly very different compared to a song so I think you should have paid for attention to that. A poem is more minimalistic and atmospheric in a different way. Stuffing a lot of clips from various different places from the series into the video didn't really do it for me.. I think it would have been a lot more appropriate if the main milieu stayed the same throughout the whole thing. Of course you could use various clips for story-telling sake but this video really needed some place, some thing, to focus on and on which to build the whole story. For example, if the poem was told by Misa in her room (her room would be the main milieu), the whole video would have been more focused (of course I'm not telling you exactly how you should have done but just throwing out an example)

Also, you could have, and should have, taken more advantage of the creepy background noises. I barely noticed any "sync" to them, except for the grain effect. In this way the audio and the video wouldn't have felt so disconnected as they seem right now. Especially when the clips you chose felt a little out of place. It's more like I'd vision creepy toned-down clips showing Misa's gothic dolls to the background hum (again, just an example ;)) I liked the falling dices though..

But, you had a cool concept there. It's just that its execution could have been lots better. But thanks for your efforts. It was refreshing to see a video like this one, whose combo stands out O:

2/5

:) Thanks. The masking took me 12 hours alone, straight XD.. I kept making mistakes and had to fix again..and again.. the lip sync was the easy part cause i made it in Premiere.

I had to render from after effects and premiere for after effects.. so on.. i guess that's why the audio got a bit noise.

I'm glad you like it ^^

The best part of it was the "that's what I was taught when I was too young to ask" part, if the entire video had been like that, it would've suited it well. I think the rest was a little too blatant, it needed to be more vague-ish, I think that would've been perfect.

The masks themselves were a little off-puting, they were too static in comparison with everything else, they broke up the flow and movement. Also, the video quality needs improvement. Did you use the DVDs?

Nope, didn't use the dvds. I only had normal avi episodes.. Didn't even have raw episodes, i had to crop the subtitles and at one scene even had to paint over the subtitle. Luckily, a friend helped me with that frame and edited it in photoshop.

Yup, I wish the feeling from that part of the vid was from beginning to end.. I didn't succeed in that because of the sudden masked scenes.. lots of flaws in it.. i'm pretty disappointed with it
