  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

AMV:
Getaway in Wangan created by whiic

ANIME:
Wangan Midnight (TV series)
Shoujo Kakumei Utena (TV series)
Shoujo Kakumei Utena: Adolescence Mokushiroku (movie)

MUSIC:
Stray Cats - Built For Speed
TRF - Light and Any More

SOUND FX:
Ford Mustang engine sound (couldn't find a sound sample of 1957 Corvette)
sound clips from Wangan Midnight (PS2 game) intro: Hit It!
Porsche 911 engine sound

________

This AMV consists of two parts, one that I created last December, and one that I managed to put together in just one day (5th of Jan). First part took most of the effort but surprizingly it's not that apparent when looking at the end result. I had major problems with DirectShowSource(), and Utena source footage gave me a hard time editing: stuttering, problems exporting, orphaned frames, etc.

Second part worked out easier and better. At least for once I have managed to make an AMV that doesn't get boring towards the end but is exactly the opposite.

________

[04:13:22] <Kojima> whiic : congragulations youve managed to take utena
[04:13:27] <Kojima> and make it even more gey
[04:14:00] <Kojima> wait
[04:14:10] <Kojima> why is the equalized going if theres no tape in the deck
[04:16:22] <whiic> Kojima, I actually first intended to make it even more gay ...with nipples.
[04:16:24] * SynGuest546 has joined #AMV
[04:16:46] <Kojima> you scare me

and off-topic note: that car stereo player not only has a tape deck but also a CD player. What kind of tape deck would display the track number and time from start of that track?

another note: I know it's not "in Wangan" but "on Wangan", as Wangan refers to the road (even though literally it means bayside). You may know why I chose to use "in", or then again, you might not.

VidIDs aren't quite usefull when half of the fields are filled with "various". Also, if I have a week or two to dedicate to editing, I sure have a few minutes to spare typing it manually for the announcement thread. :)

I could have made a bit more appealing ad image... and should have checked what is the recommended picture size. At least it displays well on my monitor, even in 90 deg tilted position: 1280 in height, 1024 in width, so I guess it's not too big and shouldn't mess with the frames on vast majority of monitors.

Enough of this metadiscussion (i.e discussing how to discuss). I could use comments on the actual video - not just how to properly announce them.

EDIT:
I noticed I was the first to enter a Wangan Midnight amv into the DB. There's a few of them in YouTube but most of them are typical YT quality (and even if they weren't, the .FLV conversion would ruin them).

Anyway, comments welcome. Any comments.

EDIT2:
ROFL @ "boochsack"
It really describes YT well. :D

I first thought I'd make a Utena / Initial D crossover type thingy but I didn't find enough different perspectives of Akio's '57 Corvette to photoshop Akio driving down Akina mountain pass with AE86 so I just made a short scene with Bluebird overtaking the Corvette on Wangan highway. Lazy me. Well, not just lazy. It might actually be impossible to find the required footage necessary to prolong the overlap. Utena is known from it's many recycled scenes...

I just noticed the torque effect on engine block acts in the wrong direction. Also, so does the chassis tilting due to torque during rpm changes. It annoys me that I made such a simple mistake. I might release a fixed version some time with some other minor changes. I'm also considering making a "sequel" but I'm a bit in doubt on whether anyone would be interested in one since I haven't received many opinions on it. Gimme them already so that I may improve.

Details on the possible second part are open but I won't be trying to fit Utena into it.
