I'm new to the site, and also new to AMVs, BUT, I try to make some good stuff. I've been lurking around here and I came to the conclusion I should do much better. But meh. Anyway! Without further ado, I present to you my first video (that I find good enough for others to view):

Quarter-life crisis: a sense that everyone is, somehow, doing better than you.

As I expected the lipsync was uneeded and even almost hilarious.
Video Quality was really bad. Macroblocks everywhere. You wasted a lot of bitrate with the black borders around the video. You wasted even more bitrate through not compressing your audio to mp3.
The refrain-effects with those moving bars didn't make much sense in the context of the footage.
All in all I didn't enjoy it much. Try too give more attention to the basics, like when to change a scene, then to stick effects on top of the video.

Thanks.Chocobuddha wrote:It's definitely a very good first video.

Yeah I noticed. It's strange though, I tried to fix it by making the edges of the mouth fade to opacity.Chocobuddha wrote:You might want to watch out for stuff like the lip syncing around 2:58~3:17, though. For some reason, the edges of the photoshopped mouth were slightly visible. Not the worst thing ever, but a bit distracting.

Yeah, I know. The idea of the video was to first show what the girl is doing, and then what caused it. Unfortunately those scenes didn't go with the song as well as the first part, and I didn't feel like making the entire first half all over again on a different song. Yeah, I guess I should've prepared better eh?Streicher wrote:As I expected the lipsync was uneeded and even almost hilarious.
I kinda don't know how to get rid of the black borders, sorry about that. If you could explain to me how to do so, please do. I'd be very grateful. I use premiere pro. Although I'm experienced with codecs, I don't know much about the bitrate, so I'm afraid I don't understand that part of your critique.Streicher wrote:Video Quality was really bad. Guess so. It was going along with the chorus.Streicher wrote:The refrain-effects with those moving bars didn't make much sense in the context of the footage.
That's a good tip. Thanks. I'll try to use less effects and more videos. It's hard to think of an interesting video though. Ah well. Guess I'll have to try harder.Streicher wrote:All in all I didn't enjoy it much. Try too give more attention to the basics, like when to change a scene, then to stick effects on top of the video.

Bitrate is the average number of bits your vide consumes per second. Basically, you devoted a lot of bits to black borders and uncompressed audio. This is analogous to wearing a $8 million diamond bra underneath a $10 t-shirt. Unless you have a habit of stripping in public, diamond lingerie (uncompressed audio) isn't getting you any attention underneath that cheapo t-shirt (poor visuals).
If you're aiming for, say, a 50MB file, you can only "fit so much" quality in. You want to compress your audio and get rid of the borders so all those delicious bits can dedicate themselves to beautiful visuals.
