Someday's Dreamers - Perfect Day

Post by jal0021 » Tue Mar 16, 2004 5:24 pm

After a year's sabbatical, I've finally released a new video:

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=34285

Anime series is Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto (Someday's Dreamers). Music is "Perfect Day", by Collective Soul (feat. Elton John).

For now, it's the only Someday's Dreamers video in the database, and given how recent and relatively overlooked the show is, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the first ever made - hopefully the first of many, as it's a wonderful series.

Anyway, it's probably the most straight-forward video I've done; not as abstract as "Sakura no Yume", not as original as "Forever and Before", and not as dramatic as "Haruka's Song". It may resemble "After the Rain" somewhat in style, but given that I have a couple more years experience under my belt now, it's much more refined. I don't know if I'd call it my favorite video thus far, but it's by and far the best produced.

Current plans are to send to Animecentral and Otakon. And maybe A-Kon, just so I can see it on the big screen in person.

Comments are appreciated.

That was a neat little video. I need to show it to my brother since he likes Someday's Dreamers. The jazzy tempo of the song fits with the light-hearted atmosphere of the show. I like your editing decision of cutting between fullscreen and letterbox scenes. I hope it goes over well with a few people at those conventions.

The video looked all messy and garbled in full-screen parts. I suppose it's because the vertical resolution isn't a multiple of 16. My XviD is admittedly a little old, it probably plays fine with newer builds.

Worked fine for me - it was very crisp and clear. You might want to update your player/codec

Indeed, the vertical resolution isn't a multiple of 16, but the newer XviD builds (or ffdshow, in particular) should play it without any issues.

I did manage to reproduce the distortion on a friend's laptop, so I'm aware of the issue. Since I made a minor mistake cropping the image to begin with, I'll go ahead and fix that and re-encode at 640x432. With the extra crop, the aspect ratio won't be affected, and with the standard resolution, it should play back correctly for those using older builds. I know I'm using aspect ratios that don't fill the screen at full screen, but I really wanted to keep the wider feel; if I go with, say, 640x480, the video just doesn't look the way I intended, especially in the letterboxed scenes.

Anyway, thanks for the comments, both of you. I know the video is likely to get little attention given how "unpopular" Someday's Dreamers is, but I guess I have experience working with "unpopular" shows. :D

Ah, you're right. When I did a search of the database, I used "Someday's Dreamers" rather than "Someday's Dreamer" (the title in the database is missing that final "S"). Hence, nothing came up.

Anyway, I'm downloading Metro's video right now.
