This video is the most personal I've made in a long time. This is my dad's favorite song, and I grew up listening to it constantly. He also insisted on taking our family camping. I hate camping, but they are still warm family memories. Those memories, and the love I have for my father, were put into this video. There's even a part with an RC airplane that is almost exactly like one he used to have.
There were so many unique challenges in making this video, that I'd never had to contend with before. The song is very long and repetitive, and the anime is far less energetic than I'm used to. I was determined to use the whole song, so I had to plan it out extremely carefully in order to keep the video from stagnating. This ultimately meant introducing each element of the show as slowly as possible and in the proper order, putting off the actual camping as long as possible. The flow ended up as: day begins - landscapes - civilization - people - characters - fun little adventures - shopping for camping supplies - camping - food porn - end of day.
As this is such a huge departure from my usual style, I wasn't sure if I could pull it off, and it just sat in the idea bin for a while. But then NekoKitkat provided the opportunity with her Nekokitcontest, which focused on longer-style videos. The contest ultimately never happened, but it was the perfect motivation for me to make this video, and I'm so glad I did. It eventually ended up as my entry for AWA Masters 2025.
