Submitted to RICE 2022, which I knew would happen at the same time as my son's birth. The video is fragmented and kind of all over the place when it comes to art styles and imagery. My decision to have children was strongly influenced by psychedelics, and you can sort of see that translating into the AMV. It's not the easiest AMV to follow, and I definitely had some anxiety about how random and weird it might seem to others in the contest (wtf LION KING?!). Overall there were some polarized opinions on it, but even though the storytelling and scene selection is ???, I think at least that the overall mood was communicated well. Personally, it's my favorite thing that I've made so far, and I've spammed it a lot in the months leading up to my son's birth.
The theme for this one is extremely specific, so it took a long time to find enough clips to make this. Lots of trolling around on sakugabooru and just trying to make a note of anime where I saw plants growing. It took maybe 6 months of sporadically saving video clips to a folder before I had enough footage. Once I started editing, the psychedelic interlude was the hardest and involved lots of looping 2 second intervals over and over to try to get the sync right.
I submitted it to RICE as "TinyURL 48etn78x" which leads to here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ani_Couni_Chaouani. It won best psychedelic ("This edible ain't shit"), which surprised me a little but I was happy with anyway. This one is less personal than the other one and will probably have more general appeal.
Overall I'm pretty happy with my submissions this year and am already scheming what I will submit next year.
