Souls to Ghosts

Post by SaltAMV » Sun Sep 08, 2019 5:55 am

Originally part of this video had been done for a 3 hour challenge. I decided to polish and complete this video because it was tons of fun to work on. I had worked with this song in the past and recently found it again through Copycat Revolver's "Rhamnusia" which ended up being a huge inspiration for this project. I played around with some new transitions and effects i usually don't work with and i think it's been a great learning experience as i'm becoming more comfy with effects and such every time. Anyways, please enjoy!

Interesting video. I thought you did a great job keeping with the flow of the song. The scene selection was also good. They matched each other well and kept the video cohesive. Nice work!

Sadly I need to rate this as average on my book. Maybe it's just a fun practice edit, like you implied. Main problem that I have is that I don't feel the music and anime really work that well together. It does have an ok flow and some scene switches are gold (like that from grenades to watermelons for example), but you force it to work. It's not that natural source combination. What adds to this is the using of two visually very different movies mixed together, and to make it worse you feed in the first movie to the viewer at the beginning and throw in the second movie footage much later. You do make a good work (like the scene I mentioned earlier) on it with the materials you have, but I think it's a bit of an uphill battle. It's still very notable after all the nice editing.

Really solid editing, nice job bringing these two sources together, many editors have done just that but none left me feeling like I really need to finally watch Ghost in the Shell 2 as much as this video did.
