SSSS. GRIDMAN - Good Grief... AMV

Post by SaltAMV » Wed May 08, 2019 1:42 pm

I tried something different for this video and i'd like to explain as it was originally meant to be a joke. I decided to have the first two thirds of the video have terrible zoom ins, pans, twirls, because i was tired of trying to get clean and nice effects/transitions/etc. (couldn't bring myself to botch the cuts haha). I think it fits the tone of the song pretty well. The last third of the video goes back to my normal editing style. Most importantly though i had fun with it and i hope you do too.

This isn't really the type of mood that I would have expected from a SSSS. GRIDMAN video, but somehow it worked :asd: . Not gonna lie though, the super close zooms did make me consider stopping watching at first. And so I do wish that you had edited the whole video a bit more seriously than just the last 1/3, but I'm glad you had fun with it. Also, that thumbnail for the YouTube preview is legendary

It's weird how much I found myself really getting into this, especially in the second half. The editing throughout this video was tight and snappy and overall it's a fun, upbeat AMV that got into my head in a good way.

I can't say I really liked the initial effect of zooming in close on the characters like that and panning across the shot. But in a weird way, I kind of like that you tried it anyway. I think most editors would be afraid to or would chicken out when they see how it affects the visual quality of the clip. I won't go so far as to say that it's a failed experiment but I just appreciate people trying something new rather than playing it safe all the time. I think my reaction would be the same here whether it was a brand new editor or someone like you that I'm really invested in.
