Romance with a bit of pessimism.
I've always wanted to edit to Simon & Garfunkel, and I thought this song fit neatly with the anime. Hope you enjoy!

Re: Get Back to Sleep, Art
Good job! The AMV is well done, the little story that is understandable, the video is simple yet elegant and I like that

Thank you! This was a quick and simple project but I took some time with the story, glad you enjoyed it!

Re: Get Back to Sleep, Art
Love love the atmosphere overall. I adore this song, and with the scenes you chose, it became a very lullabaic (not a word, but ya know) video.
Up until :32, I really like it. I like the touch at :25, where the scene is frozen and the blur comes down, and when the blur is gone it resumes. Very short, but it looks good. Also, matching the trains at :19, never seen that done. That scene at :32 I really don't like though. It's too obviously different from the others, with its color correction. If you wanted it to match, I'd have placed it somewhere else, where the natural red from the scene would go. Adding the blue looked blech though. At least I'm pretty sure there's some manipulation of the scene, as I recall it's mostly red, and the snowflakes are blue, which gives me the idea.
The introduction of the girl at :51 where the song picks up I really like. And then as it slows down, so do the scenes, so good job at pacing. Also like the little touch of glow at :52.
Personally, I don't like seeing the Haruhi/Clannad scenes. At 1:12, it's such an 'iconic' scene for that movie, it doesn't really fit, especially since you're kind of focusing on the characters from the Shinkai movies, not this. I get that it matches with the snow and such, but the animation difference is noticeable to me. Also, it's a two time thing with Haruhi, it's not often, so it's even more noticeable.
Don't like the short flash at 1:23.
The very short flashes at 1:32-1:34 I also don't like. They're a tad too short, and I think just the hardcuts would have done the job, with a long black fade out on the last scene. (Like :20-:21) The majority of the flashes seem unnecessary.
Actually like the cut in scene at 1:36! It's a bit weird at first, but not really, especially when the next scene goes with it.
Didn't like the masked planet at 1:54. The scene inside it (well, two scenes?) are too dark for the rest of the scene. I would have made the rest of the scene darker, and therefore do it to the rest of the video, or dust it up a bit with some gamma levels or whatever. I like the idea, it just doesn't go with the levels.
As for quality, song quality is good. I don't think the video should have been 720p though. It's either the source or the compression, but there's noticeable artifacts, like at :49, and all throughout the video. Also, other scenes from other anime, like 1:10, have the same quality (that scene in particular is a bit too blurry for my tastes. I get it with the white background that it will be slightly hazy, but it didn't go with the crispness/detailed scene before it.
The video is majorly lyric driven, and I think it does well at matching those lyrics. The atmosphere is very good. It's pretty simply edited, with very small effects added, like the glows and white ball thingies, which give it nice touches and keep it fresh. Except for the other anime scenes and some little issues with flashes/levels, it's pretty well done. It's nothing special in terms of romancey/drama amvs, especially with this anime, so not all will get much out of it, but I don't get tired of these sources.

Re: Get Back to Sleep, Art
Gracias for yer review, in the first place
You're right, that was my lousy job at color correction. The shot was exactly what I wanted, but I should've done a better job with those sick blues. I also shoulda put in the time to make the other Haruhi scene my own as well (by customizing the animation), since I chose to use it at all. But it'd probably look nasty regardless because it's such a familiar scene. Including it was more of an afterthought having to do with timing and a lack of more relevant scenes.
I stuck with the faint flashes at 1:32-1:34 to give a little jolt of brightness, to complement the rude "awakening" the two characters experience; I wasn't going for smoothness that time. The planet at the end's also supposed to contrast with the rest of the scene. Prolly didn't make it too clear, but the two dreamers (in scenes designated by the little white ball thingies) are supposed to be looking up at the dark and distorted reality that they're not together when they're awake.
Oh no, I didn't notice those ugly blocks. I neglected cleaning up of the footage like I usually do, and I think the final encode brought out those artifacts a lot more. You're totally right, though, I need to watch out for that foreign animation
Thanks! My original intent was to throw a little somethin' together by slapping on scenes that matched the lyrics, haha. Glad you liked it!
