Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Well, u are not obligated to watch anymoar Naruto vids, but no one's obligated not to use it as well, despite turning into a crappy video or not. I guess this is the point here. Just keep in mind not everyone hate Naruto videos because of this.

If someone wants to edit solely with Naruto that's their choice, however if they post in announcements and want a critique in order to improve then people are perfectly allowed to point out that Naruto is the most overused source in amvs and most people are sick of seeing it. Should we just ignore all the people asking for critique on their Naruto vids simply because we see it as overused? It's extremely rare to see something new done with Naruto because theres 1500 other Naruto vids out there. And Kio, like he usually does was giving his opinion on how to improve. Since the OP posted his video here I assume that is his goal. If you really 'just make videos for yourself, who cares what everyone thinks' you wouldn't bother putting them online, and you wouldn't bother posting here to see how other people think you did. He's doing this so he can better himself in the hobby. That being said IMO using Naruto isn't nearly as bad as using Advent Children.... Naruto has hundreds of episodes, where as ffVII is a two hour movie.... Theres nothing I'm more sick of than that. However advent children is usually better accepted because of the amount of high quality good videos made to it as opposed to the few Naruto has.

I can mostly agree with what other people said. I couldn't really get into what was going on here, seemed a bit like a random assortment of scenes. I can see the sync you were trying for, but I think WMM screwed you over on that one. Same with the orphan frames, another wmm staple. Since you took the extra time to add in those subs and rip your own footage as opposed to the kind of quality typically seen in Naruto vids it shows that you are making effort. In order to appeal to a wider audience while using Naruto you would have to do something pretty remarkable to get their attention away from the 'yet another Naruto vid' syndrome. I used WMM for years, believe me, switch now before you waste any time on it. WMM is acceptable for slower vids but seems to marginally fail at any type of medium paced beat sync. There are some exceptions to this as there are exceptions to everything, but judging by this is seems that your editing program is really stifling you. I recommend Magix, this was the first program I used after wmm and I was blown away by it. Also it's one of the cheaper ones at only $50. Also about your space issue the price of hds have really went down within the last year or so (and will probably continue to do so) so if thats an issue you might want to look into getting more space heres a 1tb external for under $100 Good luck and keep improving.

And anthonypokemon - I started out on WMM too. If you keep using it, there will be a point where you get pissed off by the limitations (i.e. have to go through this tedious process of using AVIsynth to get footage that's in reverse, whereas in Premiere Pro and other higher programs, it's a simple click. Also stuff like can't exactly alter speed - WMM can only do 50% faster and 50% slower. Can't zoom into a particular part. Can't use masks. Doesn't have tracks. It's linear - meaning you have to start at the beginning - finish an AMV and insert a clip at the beginning and the whole thing gets out of sync. If the FPS is not what WMM exports it in, then it's likely to give orphan frames (frames which don't belong there) when you cut exactly on a scene change, even though you don't see them in the editing program - I think that happened a lot in your video. Ahh, memories. ;_; ) BUT, thinking back, it was simple enough to use. I agree that other programs are better, but I only started using them once I'd "mastered" WMM. Before that point, I MIGHT have been overwhelmed by the more complex programs, so maybe sticking on WMM would be good for a little while if you feel you can still learn on it. Anyway, take it at your own pace, but letting you know what is inevitable. Er... my first copy of Premiere Pro wasn't obtained through regular means >.> <.< but eventually I went out and bought the student version because I was happy with it. :)

You can (sort of) see the standard for the announcements forum by looking at the vids others have posted. I know that some/all people here don't post ALL their vids, because of the standard. You can do what you like, though... but did you know that you could use the "opinion exchange" forum to get people's opinions on your vid? (mention in the title it's a beta and you'd like feedback so you can adjust your vid from it, and offer to op a vid of their choice in return)
anthonypokemon wrote:PPL theres ppl that makes AMVs worse than this if u relize it, my videos arent always that bad and i use what my heart sets on, theres no such thing as a perfect amv, Plz stop making me feel like im a very bad AMV maker theres ppl that has videos worswe than mine all AMVs arent perfect
Don't get like that, you n00b!!! :P Disregarding labels like 'good' and 'bad', what you will get in these forums is points for improvement. That's not something to feel bad about - it's how we learn. People who get feedback improve faster. Some of my earlier videos were shocking in terms of technicality, but still fun. And while I appreciate technical proficiency, I can still enjoy a video that hasn't got all the tech bits together. And the fun bit is the main bit.

- here ya go - watch it and feel better if you like - it does more things wrong than yours (esp. using subtitled footage - in the original source). ;) And yes, I did post it on the announcement forums.

Everyone really has a different opinion - you're the final judge on whether particular feedback is useful or not.

By whose judgment?

And that's why getting beta feedback would help - i.e. feedback before the AMV is complete. If you like.

That's a bit too general - in terms of 'like' and 'dislike', it can be broken down into parts that are more specific. e.g. Kionon mentioned that there wasn't any need to put subtitles, so you can change that next time if you agree with it. And those orphan frames - those can be edited out, if you wanted to. In terms of concept, it would need to be taken case by case, and it would help to get opinions on it as you're making it. Because it sounds like you don't exactly know what you're doing wrong. If you got say... three sessions of feedback on your AMV (i.e. post for feedback, use feedback, and adjust it - times 3) then it would speed up the learning process. It must be tedious to continually release AMVs that could be improved - better stick to one AMV, get feedback as you're making it, and make it as good as it can be, IMO. :amv:

Interested?
