  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Mmk

1) Godix was being a sarcastic ass. It's what he does. It's entertaining. Try to have a sense of humor about it.

2) It was never said that we think you are less amazing or inferior to us. We never called you a noob. We never mistook you as someone who was new. We saw how long you've been around. I haven't personally watched your other videos, but I've heard good things. I have no reason to doubt your skills and congratulations on all your con winnings =/

This has NOTHING to do with experience, and not I, nor Shinodude, nor Autraya, nor JaddziaDax brought it up. You two (Bashar and Song) brought it into play.

We gave our opinion and criticism, we explained our reasons for it, and that should be enough.

This has been WAY overcomplicated.

Winning awards doesn't really prove anything to me either... I mean, come on, even I've won awards at anime conventions... O: lol

I've been around the org long enough to see their reasoning, but I'm just pointing out that they probably don't really consider you necessarily a newb, they just didn't like some of your editing choices.

And the "learning curve" statements were just general statements, not necessarily ones pertaining to you in specific as I said, but just amv editors in general.

I have to say, the mood for the video seemed wrong, the scene selection didn't coincide with the feeling of the song. There were a few parts where it was right, the FMA snowy bits and the breakdown of the song (at about 2:35 or so) were spot-on, but generally I felt that it missed the mark on developing a mood. I didn't get into it at all. When I hear "Even when your hope is gone" I want to see someone who looks like they're on their last leg and still pulling through. A lot of what I saw was people who seemed....happy? I guess that's the word I'm looking for.

I guess some of them you'd have to watch the series to see how "Their hope is gone". I kinda messed up on that I guess. I was working under a massive time crunch (At one point I had edited for nearly 35 hours straight) and by that point my brain was making sparkly lights and thinking wasn't my strong suit. Lol. Hinata, for example, her hope was gone because there was no way she was gonna win that fight. But unfortunately unless u've seen the series the point is a bit lost. *Winces*

I'm sorry, but I don't take complete and utter bashing of my work well and I'm certain not many other people on here would either.

You guys are totally not getting me. *Head-desk* I'm not trying to be an ego person. I'm just trying to explain things. And I never said you guys thought I was a newb. Bash did.

I wish tone of voice was possible on the net so you could know I'm not trying to be a jerk.

I was only trying to explain my dipstick (No offense, Bash) friend to you. I wasn't even gonna say anything till he did.
JaddziaDax wrote:Winning awards doesn't really prove anything to me either... I mean, come on, even I've won awards at anime conventions... O: lol
And that means you do a decent job on your vids. I know winning awards isn't the end all and be all of the universe and does not make a person god, but it does show that you're doing something right.

I'm fully aware of that. Please understand this.

*Sigh* I guess I just fail at getting my point across in text or something. You guys are just getting more and more annoyed with me and I don't know what to say to make it better. :(

EDIT

Fecking Epic. :O

*Sync is solid
*Quality is gorgeous! (I don't think I've EVER seen a Inuyasha not look blurry and WMMified)
*Song/Anime were perfect combos
*Beat Sync was gorgeous!
*Naruto Lipsync @ Climax = EPIC PHAIL

Awesome job.

4.75/5.00
I pretty much agree with Chrono
That Naruto lip-sync part did make me lol though.
Deffinitly something you wouldn't expect.
The only thing i can see wrong is there were some things
i thought probably could have been synced differently and the AR
but thats been mentioned already.

Im always into these kind of videos :)
Fun stuff

Wow...and the a$$hole of the thread award goes to.... :?
I'm torn between pride and 'For me that wasn't that bad actually...'
It's not what you say, it's how you say it. Like what Godix said. It was way outta line. Honestly, what does that kind of crap accomplish?
Oh, so you're one of those who can't stand the truth. Ok, lets see if we can sugar coat this some.

You made masterful use of anime that con audiences like and will cheer for despite the fact you screwed up simple things as aspect ratio and that your method of syncing is rather subpar. Your pandering to the lowest common denominator is certainly inspiring and obviously an award winning decision. However if a viewer looks for any meaning, depth, or quality in the video it's unfortunate that they will have difficulty finding any. Despite this you certainly deserve a gold star for your effort, although your explanation of the wrong AR does bring up the question of 'what effort?'. In the spirit of America, land of if your best isn't good enough we'll pretend it was, allow me to give you a 5 star rating, a pat on the head, and a job well done sentiment.

As a total side note, I too have repeatedly won at conventions. One of which was with a video I consider so bad I didn't release it for almost a year and never announced it. Over time I've become pretty convinced most con awards are really 'All the entries sucked but for not causing quite as much bile to rise as the rest we award...'

As for what it accomplishes, maybe just maybe it'll accomplish you making a video that isn't random ass scenes, pointless flashing, tossing in any anime you think will make fans squee, and editing so lazy you can't even bother to get the simplest of technical crap right. Considering your reaction so far I kinda doubt that though.

Your video was chosen for review this Monday. If you should attend, you are welcome, but you will be expected to keep your commentary limited, if not entirely absent.

Be prepared for a lot more of the same, godix is a regular contributor to review, and we are a generally harsh lot. Your video was chosen before this controversy, although it was chosen precisely for the controversy it has turned out to have engendered.

You can see my opinions in #amv-review if you come, or when I post the log. Everyone here is invited.

I guess what it all comes down to, Wendy, is who did you make this video for? Did you make it for yourself, the people in the audience, or the people here on the forums?

If you made it for yourself, I KNOW that it makes you feel something and that you enjoy it, so you accomplished what you were going for there.

If you made it for the audience at AB, not only did they vote you best in your category, but they were dancing and screaming and cheering for you, so you obviously gave them a great deal of joy and enjoyment. So, success there.

If you made it to satisfy the org, it looks as though you might have failed.

Out of the three, I know you well enough to know that you probably didn't make it for number three, so just remember the reaction to your video on Saturday night and let that carry you through the criticism.
