Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
- Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
- Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
- When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
- Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

This video was not attempting to be artistic and I don't know why everyone thinks AMVs are supposed to be artistic as a rule. It should only be considered artistic if that is what the editor intended and even then its hit or miss.
I think Art is in the eye of the beholder...

Just to clarify, I talk to DCG on a regular basis. I like several of his videos. I wasn't "hating" on him because he has a DBZ name. As for the song, I like Saosin. Hell, I've made a Saosin video. However, I'm still perfectly entitled to not like a video for one reason or another, and in this case, yes, he hits the beats, but with completely random scenes. Sorry, but that just doesn't appeal to me and makes the whole thing incoherent. How is that "fake logical reasoning" o_O I like a lot of action videos, and not only ones that follow the original storyline of the anime, but for ME anyway, there's got to be some kind of logic and reason to the scene selection, otherwise, it just comes off looking like "hmmm okay, gotta fill in this block of time, here's this scene."Ingow wrote:Oh ffs, how the hell is this not a coherent pure action video? It starts with a freakin' space battleship fight and the only not-action scenes make out like 10% of the video and are exactly placed where the beats change to a softer vibe. Besides, this isn't random, this is a very old method to make overused animes look fresh by just for once not following the exact same storyline the anime provides. He just lined up the different action sequences from the movie differently and that makes it too random for an all out action video to some random punk rock music? See that doesn't make any sense for me.AtomX wrote:Alright, but at least make it coherent. I'm not saying a straight-up action video has to have a "story", but it should at least flow with some sort of meaning. But as it is, all you have here is purely random scenes, cutting on beats... Thats basically it. It just doesn't flow with the overall tone of the song.
The only thing I always see in these threads is dbz name + shitty musical taste = let's hate. I can see why people wouldn't like DCG's videos but don't make up fake logical reasons as for why it's not your cup of tea, IMO there's nothing to improve on a style that's just supposed to give the viewer random action on random rock music.
On the video: You know I don't like this kind of music but I was able to nod my head to the whole thing this time so nice work as always.
You're perfectly free to disagree with whether or not this is a good video, but don't tell me that I'm just hating on him for stupid ass reasons when I'm not.

Heh, I guess the whole point of my post was so that you would clarify this for the broad masses then. As an outsider looking at DCGs announcment threads just always feels like some people have to be going on and on about him having to change his style that he's got like for 3 years or what now every time again which mostly just leads to a lot of random ranting follow up posts that don't always seem as fair to me as they maybe should or something.AtomX wrote: Just to clarify, I talk to DCG on a regular basis. I wasn't accusing you of hating on him to begin with, it was more speaking in general about how in every DCG thread I've seen it's the same scheme of posts and the 50% that make out critisism always say the same thing and he always answers with "but that wasn't what I was going for" ;>

Yeah it seems like a lot of my video announcement threads do become that but eh what can you do. I generally make videos for myself and for my own enjoyment and its great when other people like it, but if they don't hey I tried.
With this video specifically I was going for scenes that could be interpreted either way. Mainly because the lyrics of the song seem very cryptic to me. So I put scenes that I interpreted into the song lyrics to work for the theme I was going for and, because of how I edited the video, I do realize that the video is going to be hit or miss for most people. Criticism is always good though because I can take what people say and run with it. Either using their advice or not using it but its good to get someone else's perspective so I can change the way I do things to improve.
