Forum rules
Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

well, i am personally quite fond of mpeg 1. You can get reall good quality vids using it if you know what you are doing. And the only reason i could think of that it would sound like crap would be the compression settings you use. Personally i am more prone to d/l a 50-80 MB mpeg1 than a 200 MB Mpeg2, plus my comp doesn't like mpeg2 too much, and even my roomates computer that is alot better than mine, i still had to d/l a program to be able to play an mpeg 2.

Just experitment around with your encoder settings a bit, or try and find a good tutorial.

As I said in the VERY beginning, you're obviously doing something wrong with your MPEG encode. My guess is your source you made the video with is crap (probably a compressed divx instead of a raw vob/avs) and you're probably using a shitty compressor. Someone has already pointed out TMPGEnc to encode MPEG-1. The guides even tell you EXACTLY what to do.

I usually don't like how how NDW is harsh, but this time he's dead on. Read the guides...get the programs...it's that simple. If you refuse to do that, you have no right to complain about people giving you bad reviews for quality. The instructions to get great quality is right there.

I also bet that your MPEG-2 encode wont' be absolutely perfect either. From the way your MPEG-1 is encoding, that would imply the original source (what it is encoding) is already degraded in quality.

Sorry to be so harsh, but I think you need to read the guides and follow directions as opposed to making a 200 MB file.

ditto, somebody needs to follow the guides...

sheesh. If a whole digisub that's like 230 Megs is 25+ mins and looks dvd ripped, there's obviously something wrong with that compressor your using...

actually, wmv9 should be a lot better than mpeg 1, so he's probably right there :| last time I compared (which was a looooooooong time ago) even wmv 8 was a bit better than mpeg 1.
But your assumption that wmp 8 can play back mpeg 2 is incorrect. The player itself has little to do with ability to play back a certain format/codec, it matters more on windows what directshow or vfw decoders you have installed :| most people don't have mpeg 2 decoders unless they have DVD software.
Unless WMP 8 included mpeg 2 decoders, but I have no idea whether it did or not nor do I really care :\

No! He's Mine!

Anyways, I agree with the old "post something in General video/software/hardware help" suggestions.

all the wmv files i have ever seen using wmvp or not sound like ass, you might be able to get a decent picture out of them, but the sound is always awful...but this is just based on what i have seen.
