Yay, I speak German (I went to school in Germany for years 7-9, so I became fluent - I've lived in Australia for the rest of my life but my parents are now living over there again, so I can still practice).
People who don't actually speak the language will find this song difficult to follow (I haven't checked the subtitles so I can't comment on them) as the song, at least to my ears, is culturally accented with a reasonable amount of colloquialism. I needed to concentrate at some points to follow the lyrics. This is not a criticism in itself, but more a reflection on how an English-speaking audience will not be able to react to the words. Having actually understood the lyrics, I can say that the AMV would be very incomplete without them. There is a huge amount of matching between lyrics and footage. "It's a beautiful world when you look closely. Hope is everywhere and I know how you can find it. A person that loves you. A job that you enjoy. A friend that helps you. This song awakens the power..." When everything piles together it becomes a real feel-good piece of entertainment. I can see how it took the cake at a German convention.
I'm starting to wish I'd planned my visit to family to match up with Connichi (although I can't really complain with what I got at Hanami :p ). But I'm rambling now.
Well done, Zest.
(Footnote: Wunderschöne Welt = Beautiful World. These are the words that Zetsubou Sensei is always voicing as the lead.)
