Don't get me wrong. Personally, I like to see that sort of thing too. But then Godix would have slammed me for making yet ANOTHER unfunny L/Light lipsynch vid instead of just the generic slam I got. I'd hate to make him type any more than I already have.

So tell me, have you ever considered actually editing something funny instead of just hoping the funny song will carry the video? There was nothing to make it better than just listening to a mp3, and a mp3 would have a much smaller filesize.

You know, I was going to ignore this (as you tried to predict). Then I decided to whip up a sarcastic, pithy retort. But you know what? I'd just like to speak truthfully.

I am more than happy to accept all advice and critique regarding technical, objective issues in my vids. I am a total novice and have a lot to learn, and with this sort of thing, an extra pair of eyes can be a very educational tool. Filters? Aspect ratio? Lip synch? Bring it on, I'm willing to listen and incorporate it into my editing knowledge library.

What I will not accept, however, is people making black-and-white, objective-seeming statements about the truly most subjective part of amv's: my concept and execution of my video. It reminds me too much of a prof I had in college: "Gesture drawings are spontaneous, they should come from your observations, they should express what you're thinking, seeing, feeling. Your gesture drawings should look like THIS."

Excuse me? So what I create from within me should conform to some arbitrary standard? I don't think so. I make my vids based on what I want to see tangibly, based on what's in my head. If people get on my brain train and ride it with me, great. If they don't, that's fine too. I can't expect somebody to have the same observations, thoughts, sights and feelings that I do. If they do, that doesn't make my video "good"; if they don't, that doesn't make my video "bad". It just makes it what it is and people either get what I was trying to convey or they don't; either they enjoy it or they don't. End of story.

Outside of objective technical experience, nobody on this site is more qualified than anybody else to deem a video bad or good. As far as concept goes, it comes down to personal taste.

So you offer to be "helpful". If I accept that help, then I get to make "good" videos. If I don't, then I'm "ignoring" you and make "bad" videos--that's what your opinion conveys to me. And that's fine, if that's what you think. However, it will never be what I think, so we arrive at an impasse.

So thank you for the unsolicited subjective opinion; rather than passively ignorning it, as you feared I might, I've considered it, weighed it against what I feel to be true about what I've created, and decided to actively reject it.

A) I didn't offer to be helpful. In fact I specifically said I stated what I view as an accurate assessment of the video rather than trying to assist you. Look up 'irony' in a dictionary and reconsider the whole 'godix most helpful' thing with that definition in mind.

B) I don't really want to get into this argument again, but personal taste is not entirely subjective. There are general guidelines on what's 'good' and 'bad'. Very few people would honestly argue a 2 year olds scribbling is as good as the Mona Lisa (although now that I mentioned it someone might just to be contrary). In AMV terms, few would argue a noobs almost unedited naruto fight scene to Linkin Park is as good as Euphoria or Engel. Which indicates there is something beyond just personal taste involved since there are clear generalities most would agree on. So quality is not objective 'this is right, that is wrong' like technical things are, but it is something that can be viewed and discussed on a level beyond 'Oh yeah, well that's what you think!'. None of which matters because I did NOT say 'this is bad', instead what I was saying is 'The entertainment value is strictly in the song, you added very little to it.' I wasn't speaking on the quality of the video, but rather if any quality that is present is the result of your work or is inherent in the source.

C) Of course you don't agree, otherwise you wouldn't have made the video. I've often stated as long as the editor enjoyed themselves then the video achieved the only thing of any importance. So hey, if you liked making it then go ahead and enjoy. However coming from an audience point of view instead of the editors I'm still left wondering, have you ever considered actually editing something funny instead of just hoping the funny song will carry the video?

As for C.---yes, which is why I made the vid. I could enumerate all the instances in which I felt I did, but then that's just overanalyzing and getting far more serious about my thought process here than I think it warrants---and that I think anybody cares to read.

I enjoyed that. Some of the lipflap looked kind of weird, but then I noticed that it was because her jaw moved too. You used some pretty clever editing though; I especially liked the notebook floating down onto the ski crash and your revolving door trick. Unless, of course, that was actually a clip of a revolving door that I just don't remember. I'm going to pretend it isn't though.

Yeah, she had some odd lip synch bits in her parts. I gathered just about every Misa clip that existed in the series, just in case (interesting side note---we never see Misa actually writing in the Death Note. It's always just suggested or implied. Kind of aggravating, actually. ).

And no, the revolving door's actually from Tsukihime. I finally needed help from the suggestions forum to find that one.
