Honestly? The Overfiltering was as fucking obvious as elephants are grey.

I agree with everything that's been said by Lirinis.

2/10

No offense, but I don't see how you considered Lirinis's first comment a flame. A little blunt perhaps, but not anywhere close to flame.

Meh, I'll look

As I have stated many times before. I am still a little noobish when it comes to AVISynth, and all this filtering stuff. And actually, I joined this site, just for the criticism. It's not that I took it out of context, it's the fact he didn't provide any helpful insight. That's what bugged me. There was nothing constructive about his first response. Hence why I said, it sounded like a flame. I know it's over-filtered, and way over-smoothed, what I am looking for here is helpful advice to help prevent this in the future. I'm not asking for too much am I? I am pretty sure most people here started out just like me, and how did you get better? EXACTLY!! From the help you received from your friends here or elsewhere, either that or you practiced. Trial and Error until you got it right. Is it too much for me to ask for help. And no, I'm not shooting down criticism, I like it, but I like the criticism, to contain helpful insight. And Is that too much to ask for?

Hmm.. That was interesting at least. I agree that the video quality was quite bad. I'm not sure what exactly did you do but it was overfiltered nevertheless. But no stress you'll get hang of it with some practice.

About the actual video, I didn't exactly like it but it wasn't really bad either. I mostly liked the lip sync but there could have been more of it to actually feel like the characters were singing this song. But usually it's just a line or two that are lip synced in amvs so I give you credit for keeping up with so many lip sync scenes.

The song was quite up beat and the clips were long enough to be distracting to me. If it wasn't for all the scifi action and lip sync, the video wouldn't have kept up with the song at all. I was hoping for more beat sync. Faster cuts, more internal sync, whatever to keep up with the beats. I know you paid more attention on lip sync here but the prolem was still there nevertheless. Well imo anyway O:

But I think you got the mood sync right~ All the action clips were placed where approripate (which meant pretty much the whole song though) and the occasional lip sync scenes kinda brought in some contrast. It was cool .. However, if there was any story involved, I couldn't see it. The video was too busy dealing with action and lip sync. There wasn't really any point to it whatsoever.

It wasn't a boring video but it wasn't really enjoyable either so I think I'll give this something around 2½/5 but I actually liked the lip sync (which is rare) so let's just round it up to 3/5 =P

And what comes to constructive criticism, please keep in mind most of the comments here on announcement threads are pretty short summaries. So, perhaps you shouldn't be expecting much detailed feedback here. Try the opinion exchange forum instead?
Also, people here have really varied tastes and thoughts how amvs should be like so it's likely you'll be getting comments that you might think are totally off. But you can always just ignore the comments you don't think are constructive for you ;) If someone seems ignorant about criticism around here, this community has a tendency to do exactly the same thing and punch back, which isn't really helpful but you will get the constructive criticism you need by the opinion exchange forum for example O:

as mentioned before by the others this was horribly overfiltered without seeing what script you used it's hard to actually help you.

However I think that the source footage you used was not so hot either... my subs and all the avi raws of macross frontier that i have seen are fugging terribly looking. The mkv's were a bit better not not as nice as they could have been, i did see some nice looking raws out there tho.

I dont know if you used too much deen or other temp/spatial smoothing or even mftoon but it's way too heavy regardless of what you used.

Considering the sheer amount of CG in this series (and that I'm currently working with several similar types of footage) I'd suggest something like:
undot()
limitedsharpenfaster (at half strength)
fastline darken()
or
vmtoon(stregnth at 5)
Deen(blah, 1,2,2)

Those aren't proper scripts per-se I'm just trying to show you that you should lower the strength of your filters significantly ... and on heroic age I had to cut out deen and vmtoon completely.

Onto other things, some more transitions between clips would help smooth out the flow of the video as a whole.

But while watching this I was not really expecting the video to have soo much band/sheryl footage as it did interesting change there from the standard mech combat vids.
new banzors in the making :p

I really am trying to better myself in this. The script I used was:

(Excuse the extreme noobish mistake hear. I was informed of it earlier)

deen("a2d",7)
mftoon()
deblock()
SSXSharpen
-----------------------------

I know it's not really a good thing to use SSXSharpen with mftoon() I was told about that earlier on in the day today. Anyway, thanks for the advice Autraya I will try to better myself with the AVISynth for future projects. At least I am not as bad as I used to be.

1st) mftoon() has no specs entered.
2nd) why ssxsharpen when you used mftoon? Mftoon has already a sharpener included
3rd) mftoon is a shitty filter to begin with
4th) the Deen of 7 is most likely too high

Exactly. do you have any ideas, as to how I can remedy this? Fix the problem for future projects? I'll take any help I can get. As I have stated I am still learning to use it properly. What do you recommend I should enter as the numbers in mftoon if I were to use it again? What is the best combination for an already good source file? Any help would be appreciated.

Well I hardly know shit about avisynth but I know that the settings and whatnot for the filters vary from source to source, so there is no concrete answer.
