x2. I agree with Prod.It's a nice vid

Well, well... what can I say? I was reluctant to nitpick too much during betaing, since this seemed to be a personal endeavor more than anything else. You still managed to do a really good job with the revisions though. The flow feels much better, so kudos on that. I know I could never be persuaded to rip up and redo the greater part of a 5-minute beta. xD

Good job and big congrats on the release. I knew this one was putting some fire under your butt. Let's edit moar!

I believe he has one of this own. Which isn't being released with the video for the time being, at least...

"Good evening hippies." If Oto doesn't greet you with that, it's not a genuine Oto :amv:
EDIT: Awesome. Loved it. I even saw something of an alternate storyline going, but maybe that was just me. The last minute or so was especially spectacular. This is top-notch stuff, my only complaint is that you overdid the blur-transitions...other than that I thoroughly enjoyed it. 5/5, nice work

Thanks!
While I'm sure I had some deviations/reordering from the story, I didn't intentionally re-do the plot. Just laid it out differently I think. It would've been nice if I could claim this as an alternate story vid, but I don't think it's quite there.
As for the blurs - I have a sneaking suspicion they looked better before I filtered the footage (I now realize I accidentally overfiltered it in post-processing :| )
godix wrote:It's probably the closest I've ever seen Otohiko do to a 'normal' video.
It probably is. Don't count on that repeating too often though! As I said, among the things I learned from this is that editing fairly conventional stuff is more painful (to me) than the weird.

The only thing stopping me from rating it perfectly is more of an issue concerning myself (My inability to attach to the lyrics), rather than the editing and concept of the video itself (which are excellent.) Barring that, it's a great video.
Thank you!
Yea, I can see what you mean. I did the video for exactly the reverse of that - my inability to attach some of the impressions from the movie to a song in another language (for my own editing, anyway). But hey, if it works fine anyway - :)

Though I am tempted to consider subtitles now. Perhaps those would help some people.
shaister wrote:One of the most aesthetically pleasing videos I've ever seen. It's even better when you understand the lyrics. I made a crudely timed subtitles file (.srt) from your translation which I can post, if you don't mind.
Yes!
Pay no mind to what Jasper said - I could use that, and would tweak the timing and post a file.

I was tempted to include them in the video originally, but... honestly subtitles looked silly to me when I tried them, and emphasized how my translation is not as literal as it may have been. If you think the subs are useful though, maybe that's an indication of something.

Thanks for the feedback!
Ingow wrote:russian is win, i love that language for some reason :p

I'm starting to feel the need for some strange out of context video using this source, something with more color adjustments/manipulation or backwards clips or alternative storylines.
Yea, Russian is nice :P

Otherwise no, you're totally right about the videos to this movie so far. And normally I would've been messing with the source to hell, but just not for this video. I'm not sure I will do another one to it, but hopefully someone will eventually get something more unusual done for it. The potential is there.

You know, I never did think of coffee pots this way, thank you for giving me a terrible association for them.

And yea, the footage is somewhat limited - but I also somewhat made it more limited for myself by using really short clips and avoiding repetition. I can now see why a lot of AMVs to this use slower, more drawn-out cuts; the footage is gorgeous, and flashing it by so quickly really uses it up fast. Not super-efficient.
Funky-kun wrote:the editing and quality were perfect...
but the video was just "too normal" in terms of plot and feeling.
but the song was cool :P
4/5
Haha, is there such a thing as "too normal"? :P
As I said in reply to Ingow though, I totally agree, the movie is sorely needing some more original work. I did consider it at the start, but, this song just wouldn't work for anything unusual. And I really wanted to use it.
Thank you!
Minion wrote:4/5  . and because i'm not gonna type it all again, heres some copypasta
<Minion> couldn't understand the lyrics, but it thought it was interesting. i still question otohiko's ability to distinguish singing from whining. havn't seen beyond the clouds before either. none the less though, i enjoyed it. it's consistent with what he usually makes. i'd like to see him try something totally different though
Haha, whining?
Actually I'll agree to some extent - I had some trouble with both the vocals and the guitar in this one. They're a little raw. All in all though, it was worth looking past for me.
And odd - didn't think it was consistent with my stuff that much. There's some obvious overlaps, but hey - I never did anything so... ordinary before :P

Thanks

You did see it though?

Haha.

I don't see how this video is depressing actually. Somewhat somber perhaps, but far from depressing. That certainly wasn't the intention.

I think the 'lots of scenes' thing comes from the fact that, as I said before, I used rather short cuts, and avoided repetition. Some of the editing for this was actually pretty difficult because I started running out of scenes.

Suggest you see the movie, too.
Janzki wrote:Good video with a great ending. 8-)
The ending was the easy part! :P

Glad you liked it, of all people :)
Streicher wrote:Good video, but absolutely not my keg of beer.
Understandable and much appreciated!

As I said, I knew you could sense my discomfort about this video from 500 miles away >__> But I don't think you were entirely right not to nitpick, since I think I would've taken it in my stride and maybe your feedback would've had more of an influence on scene choices (and, who knows, maybe helped turn it into that coveted "original BTC video"!)

But uh...

I can't count on Jasper to take all my videos and make them awesome for me, can I >__>

Again, for all that help, pal :D

I like to know how the lyrics and the images fit together, and flipping back and forth between the video and the translation isn't all that practical
I pm'ed them to you.

Arghxvid.avi !

So many videos coming out that I want to see... why can't I seem to get around to clearing up my QCs? Image

EDIT: Scratch that, I just remembered my sister has an account with no needed QCs >:3
