Please finish the comments, I wanna read 'em!
I never followed up on this, apparently. So.
What I like about this one is a) great music, and b) it uses some parts of the series that aren't often used in AMVs. So we get a little more of an idea of the scope - especially toward the end of the series - which personally made me want to watch the series again (it's been a few months
). I like that sense of being overwhelmed by what's going on, since the duels sweep up everyone in this series whether they like it or not. I like the hinting about
Thanks!

...without getting too spoilery. So yeah, I like that epic feeling that kind of covers the we're-all-being-tangled-up-in-this-huge-thing-we-don't-understand angle, rather than the yay-go-kick-butt-gurlz-rule angle that tends to be covered earlier in the series.Around Episode 25 Spoiler wrote:

awesome song ;p Very powerfull. I only wished you changed your editing style when it gets more powerfull to match it. The editing wasn't powerfull enough after 01:47 IMO. More use of fades (both black and white could work) crossfades, etc on the notes, especially the heavy drum hits, or other techniques to compliment the music's rise in tone. Its realy kinda hard to explain, you would have to just experiment. but thats just my opinion ^^ good story telling though. your clip selection is pretty good. And did I say awesome song? I agree with DaPatches on the split screen thing too.
In short, Good job, but I beleive this has potential to be a whole lot better still ^^.

I really liked this video, and wanted to let you know. The scene usage was great; it didn't regurgitate the same ones you see in a lot of other Utena vids (no offense intended) and the music was different. Also, the way that it didn't just center on Utena with everyone else as a sideline getting one second of face space was great.
I see the other comments saying it could be better. When/if you decide to re-edit, we'll see. Until then, thanks, I enjoyed it much.

As for the split screen, I didn't mind it because it followed the music, which was a round at that point in the song. If it had been random split screen just to look flashy, that would have been pointless, but I see why this was used, so it makes sense to me.
Also don't agree that good music = tons of effects. If you've seen the series, you know what the images mean, so the power comes from them.
Just so this isn't all positive (a little balance is good)
I did think that some of the shots of Utena and Anthy near the end were a bit too beat-you-over-the-head-y - during the shots from the dance, when they're gazing into each other's eyes, I was kind of thinking "oh the sugar, gag me." But some of the others were more effective. The ones from after Jury's duel were nice.
And the timing isn't completely on.
And at some points it seems a little literal, the "page that never turns" and all the wheels had me errgh-ing a bit too. But some people prefer literalism.
But I don't agree that lack of effects is necessarily a problem.

who said anything about effects? If you mean my comment on powerfull editing, I ment simple editing. I don't count fades/crossfades as effects. It could also be done by timming aspects of the footage to stuff that happens in the song aswell.
Theres a good example of what I mean to a savage song on the AWA Pro disks... its too bad I can't show you :/ Well actually THis Isn't what we ment by Vicbond is also a good example. (on the top 10%) powerfull editing to a powerfull song, and theres little effects in that one.

I'll be the first to admit I;m not often the best at conveying my thoughts into wordsSarahtheBoring wrote:Oh. In that case I have no idea what you mean by "powerful editing." It's vague, so I didn't know what you were actually talking about. Oh well.

But I think I should also clarify from my last post that It CAN be done using proper effects aswell, but it doesn't HAVE to be with effects. There are many ways to acomplish it, I guess it takes experience, a little imagination, and a good eye to be able to pick the right technique to use where depending on the footage.
