AWA Pro Entry: The Greatest Anime Hero

Post by Ashyukun » Mon Sep 29, 2003 9:52 am

This could also be called "You might be old if you've actually seen what I'm parodying with this video." ;) That, or you got really lucky/unlucky watching reruns in syndication.

The Greatest Anime Hero

Video Source: Moldiver (& 1 scene from Black Heaven)
Audio Source: "Believe it or Not" by Joey Scarbury (OP Version from "The Greatest American Hero")

Unfortunately, to really get this video, you kind of have to be old enough to have seen "The Greatest American Hero"- I don't think it would be nearly as funny without knowing what the show was like. But hopefully the slightly younger crowd will be able to enjoy it as well. :)

This video was my entry to AWA's "Pro" contest, and was a finalist in the "Parody" category.

I enjoyed this video quite a bit, just felt right for some reason. I seemed to be the only one that I talked to that knew what it was parodying.

I'm not sure why you picked the actors names though. That kinda threw me off.

BTW, I gave this a Guest Award at AWA for its ability to make me feel nostalgic about something I hadn't even seen before.

Good job.

I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I figured there would be at least a few people who'd seen the show, and there have actually been more than I figured on- I didn't realize it had actually run in syndication up until not entirely too long ago. The actor's names were put in because I wanted to fairly closely parody what an actual OP from then would have looked like, and thought it would be more amusing to pick actor/actresses instead of just giving the names of the actual characters, and tried to pick ones who had ties back to the time when the show actually aired.

Yup. Nothing like good classic cheesy 80's TV. Apparently there's a video store in NYC that actually has episodes of it for rent... I'm tempted to trek in and snag one, as I've not seen it for well over a decade. :)
