The Vertical Expression of a Horizontal Desire

Post by SilkAMV » Sat Jan 10, 2026 1:40 pm

This video has been in the works for over a year. After I was introduced to Battle Tapes by ‪Bauzi‬'s video Masters of the Craft during RICE 2024, I decided to check out their music and fell in love with this song. I was inspired to edit another multi-source video similar to Rider's Joy, and began cataloguing clips from everything I could find or think of. I went through all 200 pages of dance clips on Sakugabooru. Of the 210 sources I gathered, 88 made it into the final version.

This video was an even bigger challenge than Rider's Joy. That video was easier because I didn't have to worry about the lyrics, and the variety of clips was more uniform. But for Vertical Expression, I had to keep the flow going while matching the beat AND the lyrics as much as I could. And there was a much greater variety of motions and angles to account for, so transitioning smoothly between clips was much more difficult. But once I found the flow between everything I had gathered, the video turned out even better than I had hoped. It even snagged Best in Show at AWA 2025!

Thank you to everyone who gave feedback during the Accolades. I listened to it all and made changes for the final version. Thank you especially ‪Speedy180‬ for hosting such a great event.
