Besties [BCNR x Colors Within AMV]

I caught Colors Within in theaters when it came out over here, and was rly rocked by it. I was so ecstatic to see such a specific, inspiring depiction of creative collaboration, especially with such great music and Naoko Yamada's great eye for sharp editing and mature character work. So like Boy and the Heron and First Slam Dunk before it, here I'm stuck with this invigorating anime experience that I can't expand into an AMV til it releases digitally. Leaving the screening, I thought my long awaited AMV grail of making a video with Animal Collective's "Fireworks" could happen with this vid. I cut some trailer footage up with the song and was feeling good about it, but the more I thought about the song the whole thing started feeling off to me. I think the heart of that song is coming from a feeling of being down and alienated (despite however much uplift that song also provides), and that's definitely not what I feel from Colors Within. I started thinkin about what others songs might fit better, but what?

Then BCNR, one of my favorite new bands, drops this single LITERALLY TWO DAYS LATER!! It was like the heavens opened up and dropped a song that was EXACTLY perfect for what I was looking for. I did hand the singer of this song a QR code for my last BCNR AMV when I saw them in Boston, so maybe she was catchin the vibe! I genuinely started tearing up I was so excited about making this video. I loved the song so much and kept listening to it on loop, but I still had like a month before Colors Within would be available digitally!

So therein lies the delay in this vid, it was impossible for me to strike while the iron of compulsive inspiration was hot, so by the time I could start editing with the movie I got distracted, started second guessing, etc etc. I'm very glad I finally gave myself the kick in the pants to finish it though because I think the resultant video is the best it could be. It makes me very happy to watch, and I still love this wonderful song and this wonderful anime.
