I know you did edit this, but only because I've seen this episode and I know that this fight goes on for at least ten minutes, possibly more. Here's it's condensed down into about two and a half minutes. So you're not just uploading an unedited fight scene. But more or less, that's what this felt like.
These days you can take almost any idea you can imagine and bring it to life. The possibilities are endless and well within your reach.

Do you see a relationship between the song and clips? From a rhythm, atmosphere, or lyrical perspective? Personally I'm not a fan of having a thousand cuts or highly stylized effects. I like matching a song to a sequence of events that compliment each other.seasons wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2019 3:36 pmI know you did edit this, but only because I've seen this episode and I know that this fight goes on for at least ten minutes, possibly more. I totally see where seasons is coming from here, your video doesn't really exhibit the telltale signs of a "passion project" and your lack of effort put into your initial post reflects a similar lack of care.
However, the video definitely has a sense of sync and I too employ a similar editing style on many of my videos. I just wonder what feedback you wanted coming to this forum? This is a video that could be made in a single night, and while great for publication on Youtube it really doesn't lend itself much to discussion. You've made better videos in the past that showcase greater care with a wider variety of scene selection. To really further your art I'd say try and pick a concept that you can relate to personally, and create a video that reflects a stamp of you as a person rather than simply a reflection of the music or anime employed.

I appreciate your post a lot more than the previous person. I think there is room for debate around the concept of time/effort vs quality. Granted this was done in one day and with a new software program. This video was only meant to highlight a disoriented pursuit of violence either for revenge or an unhinged sense of justice. The song is short and Stain only has one complete fight to show. I think the song captures the mood for both of the main characters. I've had my video removed from a Reddit forum because it only focused on one "scene" or a single fight. In other words there isn't enough effort or maybe it's not long enough. As an AMV creator I reject the mainstream approach to AMVs, there are many that are over saturated with effects and cuts which makes the story hard to follow unless you are a fan of the series and are synched up with the themes of the show. That being said I respect the effort and there are glorious AMVs out there that have intricate effects which serve points to emphasize certain parts of the visual imagery or emotion of the song. In terms of effort, this is the lower end of the spectrum for me and my next work will take longer to release but I also think people should understand that there are different styles when it comes to AMVs. I watch this AMV over and over and I'm proud of what I accomplished despite the limited resources (more Stain figures). So yeah this is a passion project and it is far from being a troll/shit post.

I do and I see your point.ultimeaguy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 8:33 amDo you see a relationship between the song and clips? I dismissed this in a way that wasn't really called for and I definitely didn't meet this video on its own terms, as anyone's editing efforts deserve to be.
I will say that I watched your Fullmetal Alchemist AMV from 2016 and I enjoyed it a great deal more than this one (and genuinely wish that it had been edited to completion instead of just kind of ending as it did before the song was finished), recognizing that much of it functions in the same way as this AMV does. I did feel that the opening scenes of that video demonstrated both a stronger sense of lyrical and internal sync than the My Hero Academia video achieves. Not every AMV has to work in the way that that one does, but I like how it introduces characters, establishes a bigger story, just establishes a sense of stakes (?) before the longer scenes kind of fill out the back half of the video.
None of this is hard rules that anyone will agree on, other viewers will have totally different preferences than I do, I'm just some guy on the Internet, etc.
I tend to prefer collage-style videos over linear, single-scene ones, which certainly gets in the way of my ability to be objective at times. There are a lot of single-scene, linear-style AMVs (I really need a better descriptor for this) that I do passionately love, but there's all kinds of other factors affecting my reaction to those.
Keep doing what you're doing (as if you ever needed my blessings to do so)
edit: I do not prefer the effects-heavy approach to editing this kind of material that permeates Reddit, that's not what I'm craving here whatsoever and I'm actually happy to see people not doing that in the face of some nu-AMV culture that takes it for granted that it's the absolute pinnacle of "good editing" or whatever.

Respect and love. Thank you for coming back to the post. Your thoughtful response does make me feel guilty for posting incomplete work and in this case I posted a video that is inconsistent with the level of care I have shown in the past. I'm working on a new project and comfortable enough to say that it will surpass this video and hopefully provide more entertainment value. I make these videos because they are therapeutic but I also make it for fans of the art. I promise to do better.seasons wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2019 12:05 pmI do and I see your point.ultimeaguy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 8:33 amDo you see a relationship between the song and clips? mhm this vid wasn't too bad for me but yeah episodic amvs do shrug me in bad way, protip would be to use a movie instead to try out new stuiff (or ova
) But i guess stain didn't stay around for too many eps.
