(How to say) Sorry - AMV

Post by Moval » Fri Aug 31, 2018 11:17 am

Hi !

This is the second amv that i do, it's not perfect, especialy on music synch but i did my best. Thank you for your time ! I'm at your disposal for any question. I wait for your remarks or advice.

I wanted to implement a little story, focused on the “how to say sorry” aspect of the movie which is in my opinion the most interesting part. But I don’t know if you can really see what I intended to do with this in the final result. It doesn’t seem really clear at all.

Anyway, i hope you like it ! :)

The editing is interesting, but the scene selection feels extremely disconnected from the song. None of the scenes really convey the lyrics of the song, and and even the mood only feels kinda right. I feel that picking a anime that closer reflects your song, or vice versa would greatly help the dissonance between your sources.

I feel like the motion interpolation in this really doesn't serve any purpose (my opinion!), but I understand the temptation to use it. Viewers love it and they want to see it. Some of them have never seen an AMV without it and I can only imagine how they'd feel if and when they watch an AMV that doesn't have any in it.

I liked the pacing of this video, the editing was loose but that's okay. And I appreciate avoiding text and letting the editing tell a story with the song.

I'm with my colleagues. This is a concept that should have worked, and the conceptual style of this video is right up my alley. I was really excited when I saw the video information.

However, I just didn't feel the scene selection was a good choice for the lyrics. I also found the interpolation really just jarred me. I thought a couple of cuts didn't synch right. It's possible it was matching another aspect of the music, but what I thought it was supposed to match up to, it seemed to have missed. There was supposed to be some kind of recognisable resolution when we went from black and white to color, but I didn't understand that either.

This is a video in which I totally understand where you were going. I get the concept, I know what you wanted to say (or at least I think I do). But my own intertextuality (the knowledge the viewer brings to the media) was doing the heavy lifting. I had to use a lot of brain power to understand how what I was seeing matched what I thought you were trying to say. I shouldn't have to work that hard at a sentimental video, it's pretty draining.

You clearly have a lot of skills, but it may be helpful to you if you sometimes step back and think about the video as a whole flow from start to finish, rather than a collection of individually executed parts.

I really enjoyed this AMV. I liked your color grading and thought that the AMV had a life and story of its own, apart from the anime story itself. You also did a great job matching the beat with your effects, and I didn't find them too distracting. I particularly liked the transition you did at 1:09-1:10. The length I thought was also ideal. Not too short and not too long. It felt right. Nice work!
