Forum rules
Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Your Lie in April AMV - Belief

Post by Darlingg » Wed Jul 13, 2016 7:21 am

Hi,

This is my first AMV that I put together in around 2 hours. Honestly, I just want exposure into video making/AMV making and am looking to improve in any way possible. I'd always found AMVs and the concept of producing videos interesting so I thought I'd give it a shot. However, looking at all the other AMV's produced by others on this site makes me feel horrible for even posting something as pitiful as this :\, but I see this as the fastest way to improve! Any criticism is appreciated.

Thanks!

I also just realised that watermarks appear on all the clips T_T and leaving in the subtitles may not have been the greatest idea.. Sorry!!

Welcome to the Org! The rules of announcing videos in the "AMV Announcement forum" require you to catalog your video first. So please do that as soon as possible :D . If you don't know how, here is the FAQ post about it http://www.animemusicvideos.org/forum/v ... 2#p1546652

Until then, I'm going to move your thread to the “Awaiting Catalog Entry” forum. And I can move it back once I see that you've done it.

yep
When making a title for your video, you don't need to add "Your Lie in April AMV" before it though. "Just giving it the title of "Belief" would have been enough.

And in terms of the video, congrats on making your first one |:> . I would suggest that you don't use footage with subtitles though. And also, you should add more sync to the video to help it match the pace and flow of the song. Here is a really good guide on sync that I feel all new editors should read http://www.animemusicvideos.org/forum/v ... =2&t=92942

Don't feel bad! You're right that the best way to improve is to get feedback from others.

I liked the song and the mood in the beginning. I'd say you should avoid letting entire scenes play out that long; the beginning maybe might work if you sync it better. It's good to sort of match the pace and feeling of the song; nice quiet scenes like that are great in the beginning, but it would make a great contrast if, once it hits the more active techno part of the middle of the song, you used more active shots and moved through them quicker. Some of the really dynamic shots from the opening, or shots of the characters very actively playing instruments, would have worked well. You'll want to be careful too if you're using shots of someone playing an instrument; if it doesn't match the speed or feeling or even the individual notes of the music, it will feel very off. For instance, the middle part of the song is very fast and interesting, but you used a lot of really slow shots of Kaori playing violin; it didn't fit.

For the subtitles/watermark thing, it's possible to crop those off, but I wouldn't recommend it; it looks cheesy and alters the quality of your video. Footage without subtitles is often called "raw" and it's what you'll want to use for AMVs.

Thank you guys so much, I'll be sure to take all these things into consideration!!
