Attack on Pompeii

Post by MuffinsArcade » Sun Apr 20, 2014 9:49 pm

So I recently heard Pompeii by Bastille on the radio and thought to myself, "This would go great with some Shingeki no Kyojin clips!".

So I did that. It's my first time editing clips together to music, so be a little lenient on grading :P
However, I do want to know what you all would change.

Without further ado, "Attack on Pompeii":

Thanks!

Was there anything you disliked about the video? I'd like to know what I did wrong so my next AMVs will look more professional.

Interesting concept! The combination certainly works well together, that's for sure. I was a fan of the lyric sync in this, especially with the comparison at 1:00-1:10.

I think the biggest issue you should tackle is beat sync. While some parts flowed very nicely, (particularly the end and when Eren hits his head at :27...lol), I think a majority of it could have hit the beats harder, (namely cutting down some of the scenes and having it a little faster paced). Even if the hardcuts had been synced with the heavier drums the video overall would have had more of an impact. On a side note, be careful of those watermarks; be sure to crop them out next time.

Other than that, nicely done!

I was originally going to sync the cuts and clips with the beat of the song, but some of the beats from the song seemed a little off (the drum beats from 0:02 - 0:16 for example) so I tried matching some of the clips with the song beats while matching others with the words. Switching between matching the clips with the lyrics and beat I guess didn't turn out as well as I had hoped.

And I wanted to get rid of the watermarks, I just didn't know how to without cropping most of the video. Is there a way to easily remove it or should I have just used another source?

Thanks for the feedback btw! I'll know to pick one or the other if I do another one.

It would probably be best to stick to either beat sync, lyric sync, or use both consistently throughout the video so it has a little better flow. Still, to each their own. XD This is all subjective anyway. Just my personal opinion on that matter.

As for the watermarking, your best best would be to get actual dvd/bluray footage. Not only will it look better but you'll be able to keep it for future use so you don't have to crop it again. Otherwise, cropping is the simplest way of getting rid of it. There are other methods, such as Xlogo and similar applications that run in avs/virtualdub, but those are a little time consuming for what you get, (I feel they are, anyways).

On a side note, if you have any more technical questions, like before you publish any new videos, there's always the "video & audio help" section of the site. :)
