Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Tamaki's Awesome (A novice video)

Post by PrincipleFactor » Thu Feb 24, 2011 2:34 pm

First off, hiya. I just joined yesterday and I'm still new to everything, but I figured I might as well "announce" my amv I loaded up (don't worry, I didn't make it yesterday although the video might look it). It's the only video I've ever made and I'm still getting used to the program's basic abilities (no awesome effects for me...yet?). I'm hoping that over time I can learn from the experts here and hopefully improve, at least a little bit.

Just a few notes:

1) Notice how the black bars on the right/left are constantly changing sizes and are actually there. It's best to crop them off and make the video size uniform.
2) Work about the lip sync. While some of them were actually pretty good, there are other that were really off.
3) Visual quality could be vastly improved upon. The container you are using [WMV] is pretty outdated. Check out our technical guides and learn how to get the best quality.

You had a pretty nice grasp of beat sync matching the beats to the changing scenes.

But overall, it was really short and had a very abrupt end. I also question the inclusion of the jumping scene. Overall, I think more "takami ego scenes" would do the amv far more justice. Some scenes were just very quizzical in why they were included.

But still, it actually wasn't that bad for a first AMV.

Look forward to seeing you around.

Not sure how to do that, so I'll have to look it up. I don't intend for them to be there.
2) Work about the lip sync. While some of them were actually pretty good, there are other that were really off.
I can probably guess which ones you're talking about, but could you be more specific? I only ask because only a couple bits were intended to have lip sync. I'm pretty sure I can improve on the part where Haruhi has a long lip sync part. I might just change the clip on that one if I can't get it to be cleaner.

I originally had .avi but it was too large and I had no idea how to shrink it. I'll definitely have to check out the technical guides when I get a chance.

The shortness was unfortunately intended because I'm a HIMYM nerd and thought that the little song they did there was a good match and would be something fun to play around with. The abruptness of the end is the the downside to it going back to the sitcom characters. Also in a first attempt at an amv, I guess I didn't want to make something longer and then find out it was crap. I felt like it was better to make something short and learn how to make that the best it can be/learn how to use the damned program before I tried some of the other ideas I have.
I picked the jumping scene and whatnot cause the music sounded "epic" at the end. ^^() Not the best reason to choose it. I'll take a look at some other clips to see if I can find one more appropriate.
