LantisEscudo just informed me that on the very day I released Minmay, Carl Macek died of a heart attack. Given that he and I personally discussed this video, I am shocked. I will reedit the credits to provide for a dedication.

I heard about that too. It really sucks. Robotech was a big part of my childhood. He'll be missed.

I never had seen a full beta for it. I just assisted with the masking based on a small clip and a bunch of screen shots you had provided. Most people don't know what this looked like in its early stages but I can defiantly say that it looks a lot better masked like this. And I see a lot of things would've worked out completely different had you used the old method. While this isn't a video for me per se I'm still well aware of much you've learned while making this video. Granted again I have to come back and say that it isn't really for me, considering I have no connection with the character. And this is a clear example of a fandom video, and I think everyone can agree that you're a huge fan.

iMacross made me laugh.

Visual overload was part of the point. As Nio says later, I went waaaaay beyond my normal abilities in this one. Some of the stuff used in Obama, actually came from Minmay, and what I learned from Obama went back into Minmay.

No retiring. You're too new to retire before me. I disapprove your resignation request.

Glad it was enjoyable despite being outside of your norm.

Can definitely see the 2004 influence. AMVs were chock full of 'easter eggs' and AMV hell influenced gags back then. I never caught on, just a waste of time imo. Unlike today where AMVs are nothing BUT a waste of time lol (instead of gags they likely have canned effects!). Anyway what story I found here was quite nice :3 Great work! Hope to see more from you :3
Working on changing over to a new server.

Yeah, there were a ton of jokes in this AMV, just like there were in Obama. In fact, there is a mock up of certain beer can in the footage that has been shopped to refer to a certain breakfast food as King of AMVs. Can you find it?

Glad you enjoyed it!

Join the club. I actually like Minmay to a certain degree, and given her age, and her insane cousin, and being the savior of the human race, and trying to maintain a singing career post-armageddon... Actually, you know, she could have been a shit ton worse. Macek and I actually discussed this in detail, and this video is largely, as Nio says later, a fandom video meant to highlight the ridiculous nature of Minmay hatred.

I miss Carl. ;_;

Indeed. Much lulz.
EvaFan wrote:hmmm... I dunno I had a hard time enjoying this mostly due to sync consistency i think. Your clips pace and flow changed alot as well, maybe I'm complaining about this cause it felt like a dance amv. I did enjoy some of the quirky bitch jokes but that was about it sorry. I all so can appreciate the work that went into this but some of it felt forced even for a comedy amv.

3/5
Fair enough. I tried to keep pace with the difference in the melody, the harmony, and the bridge, and my effects, masks tried to keep up. It appears that this attempt created incoherency that has been spoken to in general. That while the masking itself was much improved over previous videos, it was used in a way that did not contribute to the video as a unit.

Yeah, actually I am super-sad that the credits are not being shown at cons. They may be my favorite part of the video. I did a lot of work on them to make the whole thing remind people of the early days of dubbing culture (not voice dubbing, tape dubbing) with the self-made cassette singles of Minmay's songs and the label gun text, and handwritten titles...

Very I <3 the 80s.

Dude was awesome, and his support of this video meant a lot to me. Even though he wasn't the creator, he was definitely a key part of establishing my love of anime through Robotech and my love of Macross specifically. It's ironic, creepy, and sad that I would release this on the day he died, and he would never get to see it, or read how grateful I am to him.

Shit sux.

I appreciate that you cleared this up for some of the other viewers. This video is in part, as I told Lirinis on AMVNews, so incoherent stylistically because it represents seven years of stops and starts with vastly different skill levels. It's hard to tie it all together with the same project files over that period of time, and as I learned new skills and tried to incorporate them, I perhaps did not do a very good job asking myself how they contributed to the humor I was trying to impart.

This is definitely a fandom video. For people who love or hate Minmay, or love or hate Macross (you could be an anti-fan, because if you hate the show that much, it is going to stick with you why you hate the show), and is also meant for people of a much different generation than most current con attendees. I am sending this to a few cons, and I hope I get a response, but I am fairly concerned that most convention viewers will fail to understand the significance of the references used because they simply do not know the important history Macross, and Minmay adoration/hatred played in anime history, in both the 80s and in the early 90s in America (and the resurgence in the mid-nineties with the rebroadcast.

From a comment my facebook status announcing the passing of Carl:
That man was literally responsible for months of entertainment in my life. From the DVD collection of Robotech I have repeatedly watch, to the series of Robotech novels I have repeatedly read, to the series of Robotech RPG books I have repeatedly played/ran, and the various Robotech video games that I've vegetated in front of.

Go in Peace, Carl. You helped me through my childhood and delivered upon an audience of young Americans not yet ready for Anime the optimistic perspectives that "We must fight or face defeat." and that.. "We will Win."
There is a lot current anime fandom owes to Macross/Robotech, Carl Macek, and Lynn Minmay.

tl;dr learn2history newbs
