I was never one for the "Hold me Now" fad. I mean, it was a great video and it spawned a lot of remakes with different sources, but I guess I just kind of really ignored it for the most part... XD
So I'll go ahead and judge the video on its own merits and ignore the Tutuness that was the other one.
My first thought when I first watched it was a resounding... "Eh... Interesting...." My first impressions were kind of mehish, so I went and reviewed it a few other times and it quickly started warming up to me.
The biggest complain with the video is regarding the editing's lack of cuts and action, or basically its flow. 2:25-2:45 was just a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Lyrically and musically, there was a lot going on, but the source and the video didn't reflect it. This was a pretty consistant problem throughout the video, or at least I thought..
Also, this is probably one of the few times I will ever bring this up, but the video quality, while passable, was actually slightly distracting to me. I mean, it wasn't so bad that I thought "Oh this video is 1000 times worse because of the quality", but I kept thinking about it whilst watching it, and it did bother me a tad.
2:04-2:14... You know, I really quite honestly was going to review this on the terms of it being an independent video, but this part right here is channeling the original video pretty much the entire time. xD Not that there is anything wrong with that, it just really didn't fit in with the rest of the video and looked out of place.
Speaking in terms of atmosphere, it was pretty close. The scenes selected matched the whole "dark" aspect of the song, and as a whole was pretty spot on. The lack of flow interrupted the atmosphere somewhat, and kind of took away from the overall enjoyment of the video.
But I can honestly say this. From :11 - :40, it was a pretty nice and amazing section. I liked the art style there, and felt the combination and sync there was spot on and really fit the song's soul and emotion. I wish it had been edited consistantly through in that manner.
But it was still cute. I still like the song and I don't see many videos with this source anymore, so it was a nice combination. I wish more time had been spent into the editing, but for a 12 hour video, it wasn't all that bad.
