  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.

SMBZ-New Divide

Post by Highwire4 » Tue Oct 13, 2009 9:56 am

Hi, I'm new here so bare with me.
I made my 12th AMV recently, it's New Divide by Lincin Park. Not sure how many of you have heard of this "anime" (I'm not really sure if a sprite series is considered "anime") that's called Super Mario Bros Z. I'm a fan of it so I made an AMV of it. This is my 2nd AMV using SMBZ, both of which I hope to put up here soon. I look forward to any tips or critisism you may have. Anyway, here is the AMV.

I'm now making a Princess Tutu AMV to Stamp on the Ground by Italo Bros. I should get it done some where in late October or November.

The editing was OK. You managed to sync with the music in some important places. But your mood sync was problematic.

It's hard to take low res game characters as seriously dramatic, and it's even harder to take low res game characters as dramatic when they're making funny faces upon getting hit or what have you. Meanwhile, the song prepares us for genuine drama. The action is also not non-serious enough to be a parody.

The text is only sometimes on the screen long enough to be read; other times it's only up for a handful of frames. This is distracting. Furthermore, your logo in the corner of the screen obscures the text some of the time. Not to mention that it has no place in this video since you do not own the video.

Thank you for your helpful critism. There is only one problem I have with it. My logo does indeed have a place there. It is to confirm that I made it, not own it. It is there to act like a watermark, to prevent theft and stuff. As for the text, I don't know how to do special effects of that kind. The text could not be optional since the series lacks voice actors, I also know of how distracting the text can be, so I'm learning how to get rid of it for future AMVs since I odviously don't now.
The mood was difficult to set. I tried to add to it a little with some sfx, but I guess I need to do better next time.
Thanks for the critizism, that's exactly what I wanted to hear.

Do all 12 of your AMVs have your logo floating in the corner like that?

Edit: So I finished it...and well, it was different...heh. cant say it was bad, but Linkin Park? Seriously? Ugh. Well, anyway, it was entertaining for what it was.
