Meh...
The effects were really cheesy and just looked "dropped in" to make editors go "ooh! shiney!". It really didn't add anything to the concept. Some of the effects were nice (I'm thinking the Lucy in the television screens), but others were just bothersome and took away from the overall concept of the video.

Because, unfortunately, that's the main aspect that most editors care about in a video. I may not be a fan of effects, generally, but I did like this video, whether or not it used presets, etc, bla bla bla. It's still a good video.Turbo wrote:One of the best releases this year. Don't know why everyone talks about FX. There is much more in this AMV.

For me, the effects stood out because I felt like they really took away from the video, which made it difficult to ignore them. I think the delivery could have been much more powerful if you'd toned them down and let the core editing and sync carry the mood. There were a few moments where it felt like the pace should have been faster (during the faster segments, obviously) but for the most part, you nailed it right on the head. I think your best implementation of effects was at 4:09 (before the transitions at 4:16), regardless of whether or not this has been done before, it worked well for what you were trying to present, and this would have been a very solid video if you'd been able to use more appropriate effects like you did there.
The problem for me, is that no matter whether or not you want to examine the effects, they're very blatant in this video, so it becomes very difficult to look beyond them to the real substance of the video.
