Post by Kestryl_dragon_queen » Mon Dec 01, 2003 2:33 pm

It's really fun! Mike and I are making an anime/gaimng club and reporting on Japan for AP Spanish. So if anyone knows of any "points of interest" or famous people etc to suggest, please do. email me if you wish, or just post. dragon_queen_of_earth@yahoo.com such a great place... *sigh*

What ever the hell you do, don't use anime as a demonstration of Japan...

Christ, I can see it now. -.-

"This is a picture Japanese person, her name is usagi, she's blond, white, with a large chest and blue eyes! Any questions?"
Teacher: "Yes... are you retarded or is your placement in my class just a clerikal error?"

Usagi is a well known and an exelent example of a 'Japanese' character in anime that is -so- nonasian it hurts.

Not many anime characters are made to look asian. It depends on the series. Just because Sailor Moon is popular doesn't mean it's a thing against Asian people. If Naoko Takeuchi decided to make her a blonde haired blue eyed herione then who cares?

Besides most people I know don't associate characters as Japanese, they associate the style of anime as Japanese.

Dosn't mean that a lot of anime is a bad example of life in Japan.

That's my main problem, people thinking that if you watch enough anime, you learn ALL about Japan. This is of course, a falsehood.

Imagine someone from Japan learning what it's like to be an American from, say, the Fox Network. :\
