How did our amv carrier started and progressed. What about u?
WARNING DON'T READ THIS IF YOU AREN'T INTERESTED IN A DETAILED EXPLAINING OF EACH ONE OF THE VIDEOS I'VE WORKED ON. (IF YOU WANT TO POST ABOUT YOURS HERE YOU CAN AS WELL)
First I'll tell you my story. Man to think about it as of today August 30th it has been one year offical for me making amv's. Anyway if anyone saw my first attempt at a music video called The Ultamite Sacrifice then you would have notice some of the stuff most newbies went through. I had cartoon network logos, capture quality not that good, sound was okay. As I remeber reading something from Slayerwolf he said that eventhough the video is great it showed that I planned things out more than most newbies around here. And that meant something when he posted that.
He said "Don't get discouraged. Nobody's first video is ever a masterpiece. I would be willing to update this review if you go back and fix as much of this video as you can. I don't want to sound like a jerk. I hope that I haven't been too harsh. Just keep working at it. You actually tried to plan out this video that's a lot more than a lot of the newbies around here. Hope to see more vids from you. " Thats his exact quote.
See when I made my first amv I was eager and ready to go. The problem was I just spent money at Otakon for the Outlaw Star series and had no money left. So with little money left I bought MGI Video Wave 4 and started to work on my first amv. I had few dvd's but I need more. So I decided to record Zoids off of tv but at that time I didn't know that was a big no no. The reason I did that was because I thought I could go original with it. This video took me up to mid November 2002 to complete.
Then in late November I saw the Creed - One Last Breath music video on vh1. I was like man that is a cool video. So I listen to the lyrics and then decided, man that sounds like something that would go with Gene Starwind. Then I began work on the video. It took to mid - January of 2003 to complete. Then once the video was completed the song tormented me all the way up to the day of Otakon. I'll get to that part later.
Well in Feburary while I was running my anime club in school a new friend I made ask if we could work as partners to make a music video. I said sure and then Starwind/Hawking Productions was born. Our first video Shrine of the Goddess. It was inspired by his craving for DDR and my liking of Ah! My Goddess. We worked on that video until mid - March. Then Slayerwolf issued a challenge to us saying if we could create a better music video to the song he gave us he would allow us to challenge him back. Getting back to the first Shrine of the Goddess it became what would like to say a hit. It entered the top 10% late march and then it lasted one week at the #1 spot of the Top 10% of animemusicvideos.org in April.
Then came Shrine of the Goddess 2 this video here was a challenge by Slayerwolf. We worked on this video until early May when it was finished, but Slayerwolf not realizing he posted the wrong song didn't get what he wanted because he slipped up. So he dropped it and we got to challenge him. About a week later Shrine of the Goddess 2 entered the top 10% chart and took the #1 spot for 3 days instead this time.
The following video we worked on was called Outlaws Don't Stop. This video here is probably one of my favorite Serious/Dramatic videos. This video here took us from late May - late June to finish up. This video is another outlaw star - creed videos but I looked at this song and said man this really does have the outlaw star feeling to it. This video was inspired by the music video I saw on vh1 that was shorted lived. This probably one of our better Dramatic/Serious videos. Eventhough this video hasn't reached anywhere on the Top 10% it still has a good average and has manage to get 227 downloads in 2 months and a week with 30 ops.
Well at this point in time my partner went on vaction for a while so I was getting bord and my one friend (needhelp) was bugging me to make an amv with him because he doesn't have the equipment and he wanted to work with me. So I said okay. Then another friend (Skyshroud) came over as well. So this is how Outlaw Productions came to be.
Our first video was The Worst Inu Yasha video. Now this video was done to Dirty Vegas and Days Go Bye but we wanted to parody the original video. So we added in all of these subtitles that they had in the original video and then we try to make Inu Yasha dance and then we try to lipsync which didn't work. But actually work to our advantage since we were trying to make the worst inu yasha video. That video took us two weeks to do. We haven't put it up for download because a member is uncertain if we should release it.
Our second video however was alot better. This video was Zoom Zoom. Zoom Zoom was just a crazy idea at first because we were watching tv and then we see the mazda commercial. And Skyshroud was like that commerical is getting a little annoying. And then I said " You know it would be a halirous idea if we put the zoom zoom commerical to anime ships and characters. So we hunted for about 3 days to find the right audio then we started on the project. A week later we finished it. 7 days of 7-8 hour work days on this video. But it was worth it. And when we played it on Mr. Oni's labtop at Otakon down the hall people got laughs out of it.
Then our third video was out of spite. I was getting annoyed with DBZ fans so I thought why not taking the opening to DBZ and put it to various animes and parody it. Well this video didn't get to many downloads and lets leave it at that.
Finally Jim Hawkings 21122 comes back from vaction and we got started to work on Taking Control. This video was another one of Jim's ideas using Numb to Eva. At first I was against it Linkin Park + Eva = not original. But he pointed out that this video could be original because at the time the song wasn't used that much plus we could make it more of an emotional video than your typical action eva video. In the end (lol) of it all it turned out to be original and yet excuted nicely.
I asked Jim if he wanted to work on a video called Calling All Goddess'. He liked the idea of that and said sure. Then my friends from Outlaw Productions also wanted to join in. So we had both groups work on the video and besides capture problems. It turned out descent. I think when we go back and remaster it. It will be using dvd oav series of Oh! My Goddess not the tapes since I just got the DVD's recently. And maybe fix up the special effects a little more. Look for the remaster edition in late December to be available.
Then once again it comes to another Outlaw Productions but this time a serious video from us called Akane's Heart. We decided to be adventurious and go with music never heard of before from this brand new artist named Marlo Shay Boutte. This video I thought was well excuted due to the fact it was hard to match the lyrics perfectly. And yes eventhough people say the breaking apart scenes were to literail that's the only thing I could think of that would work for the video. But overall I like this video. For it is very original to say the least.
Then the newest video and the last video you'll see from me until Calling All Goddess' remastered is Holy War! good vs. evil. This video here I always wanted to due. Knowing how sometimes you can relate slayers to being religous in some ways I thought this Creed song Freedom Fighter might actually work perfectly. In my op it seems it did fit well. I mean yes this video wasn't as complex as some of our other videos but it was my first attempt at an action video. So I think it went well for a first shot.
Well that will do it for my history on making amv's I hope this gives you some insight on what I've been doing the past year and hopefully this answers some question that you may have wanted to ask. If you have any post them here before Monday at 7:00 pm. Now what about you?

hey, i saw your calling all goddess' video and i liked it alright. i'll try to watch some of your other vids in the future.
i only started getting into anime after i saw my first amv's like a year and a half ago. the first one i saw was dabiglizard's macross plus amv to "the distance" by cake, and i thought it was really cool. then i saw brad demoss' ah my goddess amv to "iris" by the goo goo dolls, actually i only saw the first half, but it really struck a chord. i started really watching anime when i came to college and watched episodes my friend lent me.
i first watched ah my goddess, because i was so impressed by brad demoss' video, and i really liked it. i thought it'd be neat to make an amv, but i didn't even know where to begin. the closest thing to a video that i had made was an automated powerpoint show i made for my english class. then i found windows movie maker (1.0) tucked in xp and realized it was a suitable software for making an amv. so i hammered away at it for a week or so in october and finished it. i was pretty pleased with it at the time. but its really quite an eyesore. subs and fansub logos abound. poor transitions, poor continuity... although there were some parts i still like... it was a learning experience.
next i watched escaflowne, which my cousin had recommended. that series got me hooked and it showed me how deep anime could be. so i made an amv to that. my friends really liked it, and it got better reviews. most people liked it for the song (the Smashing Pumpkin's "Disarm"), although if you do a search, you'll see that song is becoming overused.
so i watched some more animes, learned more tricks of the amv trade, and made some more music videos, (a trigun video in march, a grave of the fireflies video in june, a cowboy bebop video in july) which sadly haven't been reviewed by anyone other than my best friend...
and right now, i'm on my final steps of a cowboy bebop (movie) amv, which i should be releasing soon.

I don't have an amv career, only the hobby. I *have* gone through a lot since I started making amvs, though. I spent a few weeks wanting to be 'good,' then more weeks wanting to be average before I managed to convince myself it was more trouble than it was worth. So I think I can say I'm back where I started now. I make amvs because I can, and because the vids I want to see won't be made by anyone else - and on the off chance that someone one day decides to make one or two of the ideas I've used, it will be too late to fulfill my urge to watch the vids. If I want to see it, I have to make it, so I do.
I started when I found wmm, then I stopped by the org and found the guides and improved a little (at least methods in capture), and gained a nice hosting service. That's pretty much it. Aside from those nasty weeks where I wanted to prove something, I've had fun with vids.
I was raised to see a career as a commitment, so making amvs doesn't qualify as that - not for me. I'll be walking away clean in a month or so, and I'd never do that if this were a real job. It's just a fun hobby like any other obsession I've gone through - I get into it, I run with it, and I drop it with a clean slate. I want to leave it at that. ^_^
I plan to look back at my vids as something fun I made, not something I tormented myself to produce.

That's true, I shouldn't have even gone beyond the unintelligible subject line. Agreed. You know, it's damn tempting to put in for a panel at AWA next year on "Basic English Spelling and Grammar". My being a part of running it would be extra amusing given I'm about as far as you can get from being an English major....jbone wrote:That's true, I shouldn't have even gone beyond the unintelligible subject line. Personally, I would have guessed that this would be rather more suited to the "It's All About Me!" forum than General AMV...

Damn you ramble...
I can sum up my AMV "career" as it were in a few readable paragraphs...
I saw Odorikuruu, and realized [must MAKE PEOPLE SMILE/DANCE HAPPY]
I grabbed a DDR mp3 [yeah, like some of you NEVAR used mp3s before puh-lease...]
I went against "sacred law" and created an utmost sin, using DIGISUBS: Shadows of a Dog Demon. Not only was it bad [we're talkin' 'I wish this guy had more brains' type of bad] this video was treated FAR BETTER than I thought the public would treat it. Got to be the song...
Created 5 videos total before I felt like I "left noobdom..." Shadows, Merciless Heart, Kagome's Heart, What the Heck is [blah...], Take a Look...
"Feel the Rhythm" probably one of the first 'outspoken' series here at the org and one most shameless plugged by me with my first and best 'BIG' mistake... [proclaiming Full On as possible Odorikuruu killer ^_^] When finished, I felt as if I had a firm grasp on "how to edit in the most painful way possible" [also learned how to use 'creative naming' capabilities, not that it's important or anything... I just don't want people saying, "that trick with the lights and colors..."]
*at this point, I realized I HATED editing...
shortly thereafter, I made some stuff here and there [very slowly and even slopped one up... "Love is All that They Need"]
Currently, my "landmark achievement" is "Together - Soothing Symphonic" which was SUPPOSED to be the last of that series but due to my stupid impatience, I made it the first...
wham!
