The History of the Org
This actually occured to me just a moment ago (oh, those fleeting moments of pure genius), but how comes, that we don't have some history archive for Org?
I mean, yeah, we ranted about our lifes (just a small time ago), but what do we (which means I) know about the Org? Damn, I even don't really know when it was created. And why. And what really happened from then on.
I might be a newbie on Org (only half a year of being really active), but in fact, I'd really like to know about those important things that happened on and with Org through these years. Knowing history is important.
Any history fan willing to sum it up for me?
(and please avoid short funny comments, I am being serious here~)

Re: The History of the Org
I second this. Website history always seems to interest me for some reason.

Re: The History of the Org
Well, I talked a little bit about my view of it when it came to #fanfic on irc.nabiki.net, and how it was discussed before it was implemented, but that was a really long time ago and my memory is pretty fuzzy.

Re: The History of the Org
...and I forgot to actually say the few things I know. Well, I think the org was created in late 2000 with the purpose to index all the amvs ever made, then some years after that it was possible to upload vids too on local... and that's all I know. Oh right. There was this time in 2005 when "Wind-up Records" wanted to kill the org, but it all ended up with just links of amvs with songs of Evanescence, Seether and Creed being removed by the link area in the vids pages (although quite a few people just link to the vids in the comments area so it's not that much different...). And that's about it. The rest is not about the org but about the vids.

Well, major events in the Org timeline as I know them:
Around December 2000: Org launches
June 2002: Phorum software replaced by phpBB
February 2003: First Local upload server, the Dangling Carrot goes live
July 2003: The Carrot fills up, Golden Donut (nago) replaces it
December 2003: Off-Topic section of the forums is removed
January 2004: AbsoluteDestiny completes his review of anime titles in the database, and the "must have anime for local" rule becomes more strictly enforced
May 2004: The original ErMaC & AD guide starts undergoing revision for version 2.
June 2004: Phade steps down as head admin
June 2004: The AIM chat room is replaced by IRC as the official chat room for the Org
August 2004: Moonslayer's guide to the Org is hosted locally
November 2004: Some forums have the "Edit" button enabled
December 2004: v2 of the EAD guide is finalized and replaces v1
February 2005: Nago fills up at about 25,000 video, Kero is added as the second local download server
April 2005: Oversize uploads become possible
May 2005: Half of all videos listed on the Org have a Local download
July 2005: Auto-locking of old threads implemented to stop the recent surge of necroposting
October 2005: Convention participation confirmation implemented
November 2005: Wind-Up Records threatens legal action; Evanescence, Seether, and Creed videos no longer available on Local
January 2006: Main site moved to a new, faster server: yoko
Early 2006: YT gets wordfiltered to hosatchel, and later to boochsack
October 2006: Phade posts his reasons for disliking YT
October 2006: Email accounts at @animemusicvideos.org become available; I don't know if they still are or not
December 2006: Donator's Forum opens
March 2007: AMV Alerts launches
August 2007: doki programs in short URLs instead of the very long ones from earlier
October 2007: Zirc, the Org's IRC channel host dies. #AMV moves to SynIRC
January 2008: paizuri steps down as head administrator, Tsunami Jones succeeds him
June 2008: TJ steps down as head administrator, succeeded by jasper-isis
October 2008: Kero fills up; new server is currently under construction
November 2008: The Org is hacked and is down for several days. After its return, the forum is upgraded to phpBB3
I'm certain I'm forgetting some major events, especially in the early days when I wasn't a very active member, but this is most of the biggies.
