Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement

Post by Vlad G Pohnert » Sun Jul 13, 2008 1:04 am

I've been following this one carefully... Depending on where this goes, this might have an effect on AMVs.. It might make bringing AMVs on Laptops, etc into other countries a lot more of an issue..

For those that don't know, this is a secret agreement that is being drafted up by the G8 Countrys to try and control Audio and video piracy... If it goes through, it would mean governments now get involved in the fight and who knows where that leads

I have sent a letter to Ambassador Schwab, Rep. Lloyd Doggett, Nacy Pelosi, and my two senators asking for an explanation.

Heh, might as well just go about arresting everyone then. Hope they have a jail big enough.

Wouldn't anyone who owns and iPod/mp3 player then be in danger, since there is no way to prove, while standing in the middle of an airport, that your music was pirated or just bought off itunes?

Oh no, that's where fines come into play. If this goes through, i'm sure that's what they will do. They'd love that. More money in their pockets.

But lets be serious here, there's no freaking way they can tell the dif between an ripped CD and a DLed one. Hell, you could have just ripped the CD/DVD from your friend. Try as they might, they won't be able to bring us down, so relax. Because if they DO find a AMV on ur laptop or whatever, hey, just say you made the video yourself, with a dvd and cd you own. Oops, they can't do shit. : /

They don't need to have proof. They can just say they assumed and more then likely be right. Just keep bullshitting their way. Say they KNOW it's pirated, when they have no proof. Because chances are, it is.

The other Aspect that I don't like is the way they can get IPs... I understand that this is to try and fight Piracy, but it can be misused in so many ways.. Hmmm.. just think, all the members IP addresses here could be obtained if this site is seen as a pirate zone... I just don't like where this can lead to...

The real people who profit from piracy will probably get away with this act. It will be the more honest people who’ll take the brunt of it as soon as governments get involved in this..

Wonder if AMVs will be a casualty of this if it goes through...

Don't worry, All of us AMVers will rise up, katanas in hand, and fight the power. If we have guns we'll use those instead of swords, but for those who don't, we shall brandish our blades and fight for freedom.
