star giving ratio and erronous user-base.
I'm sure a similar topic has been up here in the past few months, but instead of partially derailing the intent of it, i want to ask my question anew - what trends do you see in star-accumulation per download for your local videos?
Perhaps I should clarify. I've noticed that of the people that have downloaded videos i've made in the past (to a degree i feel sorry for them), about 80% - 90% have actually left stars on them, while for the latest thing I've released it's hovering in the 50% range at the moment. I know time does play a factor (i released 2 weeks ago) but what other factors do you all see in that percentage?
Also, are we leading people here that simply grab videos once or twice after a con, forget their account details and simply make a new account next time? Could this correlate to the obscenely high user total?

70% of my vids are in the 88 to 90% range.
All of the 90% videos are multi-anime videos with a healthy download count.
The outlying vids are:
New videos - 72 to 80%
-regardless of the number of downloads
Convention videos - 83 to 87%
-regardless of the number of downloads (and I only sent them to one con)
Videos with abnormally high or low download counts - 91 to 92%
-these are unpopular anime, creed/evanescence vids, and multi-anime vids
What does that say?
Yeah, conventions lead to one-time downloaders who never download enough to be forced to leave a star score (high downloads/low star count).
Yeah, if you pimp an unpopular vid off the forum people come over and star as soon as they watch (low downloads/high star count).
Yeah, those old Creed/Eva vids got a lot of stars despite how few downloads they got before being deleted.
Yeah, multi-anime vids get stars, whether they get a lot of downloads or not.
No, there's nothing to make me think those one-time-download people are making duplicate accounts because they forgot their sign-in information.

it can take me weeks or months before i leave a star rating on a local download. sometimes i forget how i liked the video and am too lazy to rewatch, sometimes i wanna leave a quick comment but am too busy or lazy so i postpone, and sometimes i like having a link to a particular video right on my main page.

My star ratio is between 79.5 and 91.5 percent. The only tendency I see is that the 2 vids with the least downloads have a ratio above 90% while the 3 most downloaded are around 80%. For the vids inbetween is no correlation between number of downloads and the star ratio. It seems to me like if the fanbase is smaller the fans are more active.
But what would this help regarding missing stars? Nothing! In opposite, it would make things worse - if the account is deleted, the pending stars never can be given. If the account remains there is the chance that the pending stars one time are given - even if it is after months or years.Lockstock wrote:Perhaps introducing a policy to delete idle accounts without videos after a certain period of time would fix the problem of having too many one time users?
