Are GMVs with gameplay footage acceptable?
I'm just wondering. The gameplay footage I have in mind is NOT for a combo video but is part of it.

Well that sucks.Kariudo wrote:nope (assuming you want to make a gmv that's all gameplay footage)
game footage is limited to cutscenes/cinematics/fmvs that are "anime inspired" like kingdom hearts and final fantasy
you should be able to have some gameplay footage...but 51% must be a confirmed anime source

So, as you can see above, MGS games are fine (as exampled) as would be Smash Bros. and Metroid -- all of these were created by and under the control of Japanese companies (Konami and Nintendo, respectively) and are in the "style and spirit" of anime.Site Definition of Anime & AMV wrote:
Video Games
In order for a video game title to be accepted as anime, it must meet the following criteria:
• Games must be made in Japan under the control of a Japanese company.
• Games must be in the style and spirit of anime (not based on North American or other country icons).
• The game may premiere outside of Japan so long as the above criteria is met.
Examples: Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi, Final Fantasy 7, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Resident Evil

Even if the game used is made by an American developer (ie Metroid Prime)? I assume seeing as Nintendo would supervise it.GloryQuestor wrote:So, as you can see above, MGS games are fine (as exampled) as would be Smash Bros. and Metroid -- all of these were created by and under the control of Japanese companies (Konami and Nintendo, respectively) and are in the "style and spirit" of anime.Site Definition of Anime & AMV wrote:

I think you're pretty safe, as long as you keep to cutscenes and not make a full GMV of in-game, hud-laden clips. If anyone has a problem, just say that Samus is a mecha and you're in the clear. The anime influence/spirit rule is there to keep out GMVs using stuff like Halo, Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto, etc.
