><

you can start by reading the guides.... (as was mentioned a couple times) theres lots of technical information in there... they can be overwelming but they do have a TON of useful information... that will be on the "test"... the amv wiki also has some great technical resources XD

but if you want to make GOOD amvs then my suggestion is to watch alot of amvs and decide for yourself what makes a good amv... what makes some amvs superior to other amvs, and try to keep those things in mind...

and whatever you do please dont use subbed footage, or if you do, please crop off the subs atleast.... it will make the amv world just one step closer to being a better place for some of us

anyways dont mind some of the locals here, they sometimes like giving Newbs a hard time :)

Theres a subtle difference between a newb and an idiot.

It saddens me to see people putting legitimate effort into threads like these. I guess its time for the goats.cx

I hear ya though the reason is that they want to prove that we are a happy, non-elitest community.

here's how I started... begged my mom to buy me softwear for editing when we were at Staples, she gave me the OK, so I asked the clerks what was good for editing w/, and they sold me Roxio cuz it was fairly cheap (about 70$) compared to the other programs out there. Then I put the shiney firsbee in my puter, and clicked some buttons, and b4 I knew it I was importing anime episodes into the program, and putting music w/ it.
I put it in her butt,
and got 20 bux!!!!!

but how can you tell with such a vague question? all it does is ask for help on how to make an amv... they havent asked for any "hand holding"

and truthfully if the person is brave enough to ask on these forums i think it would help if someone would give them a straight answer, it just might cut down on the ammount of crappy AMVs people make...

you know for a little over a year i was scared to post ANYTHING (or even respond to an op exchange thread) because i had ROUMER of how nasty and mean people are on this site, especially in the forums, so I was happy in my own little private corner of the org...

and frankly all i learned after lurking so long is that you just gotta play the game with the locals... if you dont, then you get burned... (aparently with gigantic throbbing penises O.o)

and i personally have no problem helping the idiots / newbs / n00bs, or whatever you want to call them... i give advice to people on youtube who ask for it (and oh boy do they ask for it all the time)... I've recieved EMAILS because people have said to me that they felt i was the only one they thought would give them a straight answer... so truthfully i see nothing wrong with showing someone the ropes... perhaps cause im so new at it (giving advice) I've not been burned out on it yet... if you have sorry, i know that can really suck to get burned out on something.

I have a friend thats interested in making AMVs possibly but due to the reputation on this site she doesnt even want to list her AMV let alone upload it. (and she is one excelent Fanvidder, she just hasnt crossed over to anime yet, and she says if she does, then she probably wont want to list it here)

I really think that says something about this site you know?

There would be a lot less of a problem if people took the time to lurk more like you did. Realizing that you're asking a question that is extreemely vague and has been asked and answered a million times before is proper forum protocol and should be observed. If you can't do that, you deserve whatever you get.

I made my first amv before i joined the org... infact the only reason i did join the org is because i made it...

i was getting amvs from file sharing programs that had alot of crap on them...

(its okay to leave subs in since so many people do it, O.O, and people make amvs out of fansubs all the time, so its all good)
thats why my first few amvs were so crappy.. i kinda wish i did ask for advice before i jumped into it cause then i wouldnt have had to go through so much of the headache that i did with the opinions and comments i recieved for over a year... even after i improved my skills, i still got alot of headache...

I have to thank one of the mods for pointing me in the right direction ON A FRIENDS LIVEJOURNAL (not even the amv livejournal, just the journal of a mutual friend) for helping me to fix the problems i was having. (by the way Thanks :) it was a great help! you know who you are)

I'm not telling people to stop being negative, or posting nonsense to people who want help, they are free to post as they want,

I'm just saying that I'll help someone out when i can, and i find nothing wrong with that... because im also free to post as i want to post...

i lurked cause thats how i am... i use those methods in day to day life, I've learned that by sitting back and watching for a bit you can usually tell what buttons you can and cant push... and how to play the game with certain people.. if the original poster wants to take that advice then he should... it will help him in more ways than one...

Kudos to Dax for helping the n00b, regardless if it is a question that was asked a million times she actually got him/her going on the right track.

This reminds me to get to making my standard "form-letter" reply post that includes links to the guides and with basic suggestions. It seems that some of us around here answer these questions on a daily basis nowadays. And my problem is that I put too much detail sometimes, so my posts are slow in the making. :(
