Dedications.

What's your opinion on dedicating an AMV to something? As in, to a general group of people, like for example, "Dedicated to all those who dear to dream"? I'd like to add one to my newest vid, I myself think it's okay, but what's your opinion on those things?

Its an amv, not the sum of your life's work, I hope. Do as you want. My next one is dedicated to the memory of Publius.

Depends what/why your dedicating the video. I've had videos dedicated to me, because I helped the person out, or inspired them to finish the vid or whatever. I don't care about such, and just see it as a 'credits' thing. Just so long as it doesn't appear at a contest, put them in.

If you could make your video about almost anything, you can probably equally say you can make a video "for" anything.

theres always stuff like this O.o or a video like this

first one was a birthday present XD, second (which is quite a bit older) was dedicated to my hubby... if you want to dedicate go for it.... sometimes its fun to see dedications... I've left QCs that said stuff like "i hope you sister liked it!" and stuff like that... cause its nice to see people do more with their AMV rather than worry about how popular they want to become, and just doing something for someone...

though those are dedicated to specific people... its also nice to see dedications to general groups too...

If it's dedicated to a particular person, why the blazes are you exposing it to the entire internet? Isn't that like having sex in public? I guess if you get off on that kind of thing... I wouldn't. I'd give it to that person on a disc. That's what a gift is. I wouldn't give a person a Christmas gift by leaving it by the side of the road.

"For all those who dare to dream" is unbearably corny, but there's nothing wrong with it per se. I'd think less of you for having no more depth than an org banner, but a lot of people would probably like it.

Definitely. This is why authors tend dedicate to dedicate their novels to certain individuals - it's a public acknowledgement of that person, and I can't think of a single occasion when such a dedication wasn't appreciated. There is something really great about opening a book and seeing your name in the front. No reason why an amv maker shouldn't do the same kind of thing, even if the creative achievement is of a different sort.
