Question on whether to post my video or not
I don't know if I should post my first anime music videos. For I put a lot of time into this video and I would like to send it into a contest but I don't want the idea stolen for it's somewhat special to me. Is it safe to post a video and not have someone copy my video exactly and claim it as there own?

People don't normally steal your video ideas if they've already been done before. On the contrary, when people see that an idea has been used for an AMV, they think "oh, that's been done already, I can't use that." Or at least that's would they should be thinking...
If they do copy, that's plagiarism, and they won't get away with it easily. And if you're really worried about someone claiming your AMV as their own (which will, almost undoubtfully, not happen), just put your logo or something in your video. It's not really at a high risk if you post it on this site. The more people that see your video will recognize it as yours, and not someone else's.
Go ahead and put them up. We want to see what you've created!

Re: Question on whether to post my video or not
Sometime it's safe sometimes it's not. I wouldn't worry about anyone stealing the idea, that's rarley a problem. the thing is is if your video relies on the initial impression as part of its value. In which case I say don't show it. I rarley show any of my work to anyone till I've sent it to at least one convention. Crowd reaction is much better when that happens.Gene Starwind 21122 wrote:I don't know if I should post my first anime music videos. Do you mean stealing your idea, as in the concept for your vid..or do you mean reusing the anime and/or song but in their own way?
If it's the first..you should be alright. Most people look at a vid and say "Nifty!" and go on their way.
If it's the second...well..if you search the org you'll see that happens. But I think it's good that it does. I like seeing a song taken and used by alot of people and see how each one interprets it. Granted..new is always better..but

The worst thing
What's the point in making a video and not sharing it if your so concerned that someone is going to steal your idea? We don't make money off of this hobby of ours, and the communitee is still relatively small so the odds of theft occuring are pretty small. The worst thing you can do is dally around with your video, hording it away from the eyes of the general AMV community and then have some else come along with a similar idea that you had and post a video that is remarkably similar to yours -- same song/theme/anime/etc. They, of course, had no clue that your video was like theirs, after all, you didn't post it.

Acutally it has happened and it's a legitimate concern. Also he is wondering if he should do it before a con which does affect con response if they have had access to the video beforehand.earthcurrent wrote:What's the point in making a video and not sharing it if your so concerned that someone is going to steal your idea? You should post it either way. The purpose of the database is to make the most comprehensive list of AMVs ever created. This includes any AMV.
So you should list it no matter what, but maybe you don't want to put them up for download. That's up to you, but I say you should put them up for d/l as well.
