Make an album-length AMV

Post by SpaceGhost2K » Sat Aug 13, 2005 10:51 pm

OK, my wife was playing Peter Gabriel's CD "So" in the car earlier, and I thought wow, every song on this CD would make a great AMV.

Then I thought, that's a pretty good idea in itself. A dozen songs by one artist, as interpreted through a dozen different anime.

It would be a lot less boring than one, 40 minute AMV of, say, a classical piece.

So I'm thinking of classic albums and which ones would make a great AMVA.

Led Zepplin "Physical Graffiti"
Rolling Stones "Exile on Main Street"
Beatles "Sgt. Pepper"
Beatles "Abbey Road"
Michael Jackson's "Thriller"
Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" (sp?)
Peter Gabriel's "So"
Styx' "Paradise Theater"
Meat Loaf's "Bat Out Of Hell"
Saturday Night Fever Sdtk.
Grease Sdtk.

Anybody have any albums they'd like to add? More importantly, is anybody moved to try something of this magnitude?

I'd like to try "So" except that my exposure to anime so far is limited to less than 20 titles. I'm not sure I have the exposure to the genre it would require, or the variety (since I like romantic comedy stuff) that it would take to pull this off.

** Maybe it would be a better idea to allocate the songs on one album to a dozen different editors and make a compilation. That's a much smaller burdon to put on a person than a whole album's worth of AMVs. Downside is that you're at the mercy of "the weakest link" in your chain. 11 great songs and one dog, and it kinda spoils the whole thing. **

Kind of like (stop me if this is getting crazy) a project with a multitude of editors. That's so crazy it just might work. We may even have to open a forum for projects like these if your idea takes of.

maybe do pnk floyds the wall in its entirety with a lenghty anime series

System of a Down- Mesmerize

Now that myself i could see myself doing a whole album to considering the fact that
A. its short
B. its the perfect mix of drama, action, and crazy(more like cracked out) amv songs.
Oh god, that black dude with the afro is always making those damn trash ass music hip hop amvs...he needs to do something with techno or rock....
.......as if I would do something like that.

Sorry, man. I was under the impression that multi-editor projects were one where mutiple editors were working on one project together, not separately. Editor A + Editor B = AMV C.

This idea is:

Editor A = AMV A
Editor B = AMV B
...and so on, where all of the songs came from the same album.

If you have an example of this having been done, I'd like to know what album was chosen and I'd like links to the videos.

I'd stay away from Greatest Hits, because they don't have the cohesion or tell a story like a full album does. That's the only thing that keeps Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Chronicle" off my list.

How did I forget "Dark Side Of The Moon?"

I apologize for my sarcasm. I know of some MEP's where the songs and thus the videos are separate works. I believe the instrumental project was set up this way as well as the upcoming Nutcracker project and the Short AMV's project (if it ever finished) worked this way as well. I don't know about any projects with an album from one pop singer, but I'm sure they're out there.

In an attempt to actually be usefull in this thread I would suggest looking for an album with a highly varied selection of songs. Most artists have a very defined style which, I imagine, can become very tedious to watch or to edit to, especially if you're going to attempt it alone. Two other criteria I'd go for is not to many songs (so you can allow yourself and others to pay more attention to detail) and a type of music that is easy to edit to (personally I'd go for a high paced trailer type music that invokes imagery easily like ES Posthumus, but it's mostly personal preference of course).

I recently discovered Tomoyasu Hotei (well known from the Kill Bill OST). His "Electric Samurai" album might prove a nice challenge, though the fact that it's instrumental doesn't make it any easier.

Hey, I think someone should do an album AMV to Green Day's American Idiot...I don't know if you're looking for just classic rock albums or not :? But I think that's a good album to do an AMV to. Either that or just do one of the nine-minute songs; Jesus of Suburbia or Homecoming.
