Video Editing Help

Post by Kaiba57 » Wed Feb 09, 2005 11:12 pm

I don't know if this has been asked before, I have already tried searches though the forums, but anyway I am editing a video right now and during the first and middle parts of the song there is a single drum beat every 2-3 seconds. My problem is that I have no idea on how to edit to those beats, before I used black flashes, or single clips edited to those beats, but I have been told that it is really distracting to watch. The drum beat is kind of loud compared to the backround guitar and vocal, so it is pretty hard to just to ignore it. Anyway, what is your guys opinion on what I should do? Your answers are greatly appreciated :D

Try gray flashes (black flashes w/ 50% opacity), or white/black flashes (a method I've seen SSJVegita0609 use in his vids.

Experiment.

I hate to break it to you, but there's no one answer here. It's a style question, among other things. To be honest, you don't have to synch to every beat. If there's a guitar line in the lead, you might want to work with that instead. You could twiddle with the sound some, and bring out the guitar and vocals over the drum. One thing I like to do is what I call a 'cascade' (for lack of better word), which is a series of stills or short scenes with a cut on each drum beat.

This is why editing isn't always easy, though: you have to make creative calls.

Yeah, the first time I saw it was on a JR line :) The copy there is from a Konami press release.

It seemed to work here.

Best to think of something yourself, it'll help distinguish your video. If it's really repetetive, though, I'd go for something subtler. Just mess around with effects and see what you can pull off.

in following everyone else's advice.....it's true to do what YOU do and not what someone else says you should do.

i'm guessing it would've been more proper if you had already chosen a desired effect but didn't know how to achieve it. then you would ask how something is done as opposed to what should i do?

good luck

Just experiment.

If you are really stuck, a more subtle effect might be useful. Of corse that depends on what software you have acess to, but I'm sure you can find something that wont be an annoyance if you keep trying things.

In my experience - always simplify. I recall many times I tried implementing something tricky and it just wouldn't work - one way or another; and then just giving up and trying the least complicated thing available and finding that it works better than everything else.
