Should a-m-v.org incorporate alt. anime vids?

Post by rubyeye » Tue Jan 11, 2005 11:11 pm

It seems to me, by indication of this site, many of us are diverging into other forms of video projects incorporating anime footage. We may have started off with "music videos", but now I see people doing (parody) trailers & commericals, compositing original animation and audio tracks, multi-editor projects (amv or not, they are unique), even a few "experimental" stuff using just vocal tracks and sound effects.

Do you think this site should expand from being just a collection of Anime Music Video into something much broader?

yes!! just as soon as you put up your own money to start a web site dedicated to any kind of video anybody wants to create and upload for free on your web site. Until you do that just leave this site for amvs.

The point is that they are already on this site Basterd!! and allowed it seems. The question is whether to put it into the rules, that it is not just amvs, but videos with anime in them. I think it is reasonable to do so, but that might add more abuse to the system. It might be best to just allow it to be uploaded but not state that it is in the rules.

Little Tortilla Boy
Ninja of the Night

These are a few examples of videos on the org, that are very popular, but are not music videos, at least I wouldnt consider them that.

I believe the current rule of thumb is this:
video: vast majority anime or original animation
audio: whatever you want, pretty much.

So as long as it's anime cutted on a sound - its okay... *gonna remake Excel Saga with voices from Azumanga... gotta be fun*

Maybe a líttle less vague rules should be considered.

To me, audio is audio. I don't think that the site should be changed to reflect this (such as changing the title to something less recognizable). I personally call trailers and other such vids without actual music in them AMVs, simply because it's easier, and people will know what I'm talking about.

Audio is so old school. :)

But I don't really see an need....or a way, actually, to codify the rules. What should be allowed, and what shouldn't be? If you say anime with any audio, then fan-dubs and fan-parodies are going to be allowed? If you try to restrict them, then you might restrict another category...

Not that I care. I'll follow the rules either way. More or less. :D

Of course, the definition of "audio" can be as far-reaching as "anime".

Maybe there should be different cathegories - each with there own set of rules. This way you have:

AMV's: Using (almost all) Anime clips and a song that's at least 2 minutes in size and not more then 5 minutes in size... (Just making something up here - its more for the example)

trailers & commericals: Using Anime clips and a soundtrack of under 2 minutes.

original animation/audio tracks: same as AMV, just broader (grey area... needs to be more precise)

multi-editor projects:Title says all, can be > 5 minutes

experimental/parody: Comes close to trailers/commercials.

Just brainstorming here!
