Stock Footage Query? (Newbie to your community)
Hi guys...
Hope someone can help me out here ... I am having a bit of trouble that well kinda related to your stuff.
I am a video producer by profession and I am producing a music video for a punk band (in UK) ... anyways ... to cut to it, we are looking at intercuting some brief manga/anime style footage in the video but as this is professional and for broadcast ... pinching is a no no!
I can't for the life of me find however, any stock footage, of actual action or even motion lines that I can use in conjunction with anime-style pics to produce the effect or even struggling animators that may allow me to buy rights to show a snippet or so on so forth ... nothin! not a bean!
So if anyone can help in ANY way to point n the right direction I am literally looking for a few split second shoots for effect really ...
Hmmm ... hope someone can help. I am struggling
Thanks soooo much if anyone takes the time!

I'll be honest with you, I say look around for an anime that you want to use, then ask the distributor. I'm sure they'll let you do it. They would probably consider it good advertising, particularly if the band has a lot of attention.
Consult them first, though. If you make money off of it, they will probably want a cut of the profits.
Just a thought.

In all honesty, I don't think they would. This isn't the kind of thing that a distributor would be able to give rights for, you'd have to go to the original studio in Japan.Tono_Fyr wrote:I'll be honest with you, I say look around for an anime that you want to use, then ask the distributor. Your best route would probably be to find a local artist who can animate in manga/anime style and take out a commission, IMHO.

Thanks for all your help so far guy ... appreciated ... as for:
Does anybody know any UK anime style artists (unlikely I'm sure) or where i should start looking?
Thanks again guys ... You are a big help
really any ... I mean obviously I am after cool shots but the type of anime is irrelevant (altho not to fans taht spot wot it is I'm sure) it is simply the colours and visual impact that it will create ... think Natural born killers ... various shot style and animation rapidly together give it a manic feel ... well same thimg except the band loves manga and has an anime style drawing as CD cover etc...What kind of shots are you looking for, specifically?

As for stockfootage, i doubt it exists, but you should ask the japanese companies for that. It might be out there, but i doubt it. And if it is out there, i think it won't be anything flashy, but more like backgrounds and such

Several years ago, Volkswagen was using Speed Racer clips in its advertisements for the GTI. So, getting permission is not out of the question although it may be expensive...not to mention time-consuming just trying to find someone to talk to. Neither the producers nor their licensees seem to be set up for this type of thing. IMO, they're missing out on a money-making opportunity.
Maybe some of the very old anime is public domain by now. Like the 8th Man TV series. I don't know how you'd go about researching this. And the old stuff is going to look old; i.e. much different than the modern style.

Both Linkin Park and Daft Punk have had full videos (and as for Daft Punk, a whole CD) animated for them by Japanese artists. What THAT costs, though....I'd have no idea.
Life's short.
