.avi video trouble

Post by Marcius » Sat Mar 20, 2004 4:11 pm

Sorry, I don't know where to put this post so I'm putting it here..

I can't seem to play the videos for .avi videos on winamp...the audio works, but it doesn't play the video at all...realplayer, windows media player, and quicktime don't play .avi videos, but I know winamp is supposed to. Does anyone have any advice on what to do? Thanks for any help you can offer. I have the latest winamp version btw.

 It's totally backwards. WMP & RP are the best solutions on playing .avi's, togheter with mv2player. I can't believe it won't work on WMP. Corruption of file or maybe a codec? :P

Actually, Winamp 3 (the newest version I have) won't play newer avi files even if you *have* the codecs - the color turns pastel the same way certain wmv files do.

Play the vids in Windows Media Player. To get them working in that, download the xvid/divx codecs or get ffdshow - or get it all at once by downloading the Gordian Knot Codec Pack from www.doom9.org in the 'Downloads' section.

If you get the codecs installed and the vid still won't play in windows media player, you may need to upgrade to a newer version. I hear 7.0 has some bugs with xvid files - get 9 off the microsoft website and you should be fine.

[And this should have gone in 'Site Help' or 'General Video' for future reference. ^.~ ]

Maybe. I just don't think a codec or 'How do I watch the vid" question is about sofware so much as codecs - and I tend to think of that as general video info. He already has the software he needs, wmp.

But whatever. ^_^ Most of the threads like this I see are in 'Site Help' since codec issues are the biggest problem people have with watching vids, and the first question they ask after 'how do I download.'
