What is the best WORST video that you've seen?

Post by madbunny » Fri Jan 09, 2004 1:03 am

This is not meant to be a rip on terrible videos, instead it's more about a video that you thought had a lot of promise. A lot of promise but was flawed in some way, such as the DIVX logo popping up every 2 seconds, or an anamorphic movie squashed into 480x480, or perfect DVD quality, and a crappy fan subbed clip or scanned manga page inserted randomly.

No one is going to rip on newbies that tried hard... probably. Feel free to tear apart your own first videos though.. I know everyone has one somewhere in a dark corner. Some fansubbed skeleton in the closet full of promise but only delivering agony.

Here is an example:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... php?v=5878
I thought it was pretty good... except for the horrible screeching grinding noise throughout.

Then there are vids like:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... php?v=4290
That are a perfect commentary on bad videos. It's like watching 10 Linkin Ballz videos at once, but in a good way.

I suppose NON sucky videos like http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=10000 can be listed too since, it's the best sucky video that I've seen. It really sucks! heh.

"Best worst" is an oxymoron, I think you mean "best bad" or "best of the worst".

And I honestly couldn't think of any right off hand.

Any of my first pre-org vids, the ones I made nearly a month before I read the guides and almost 2 months before I put the guides into action (a good 3-4 mths before I learned to listen to music beats when editing). Let's just say those first vids had the creativity I dreamed of and none of the editing skills necessary to bring that out - I think of them and get depressed at how I wasted what could have been a favorite of my vids.

For example, my Alanis Morrisette vid:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=15799
Despite the shotty quality and editing, this vid is one of my best story-wise (my first visual fanfic), and a favorite of my original fanfic audience.

My only Kurama/Hiei action vid (no romance) set to a classic:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=15868
If I remade one vid knowing it would get good reception, it woudl be this one. It was made to be a classic and only failed because I didn't know any better.

My first non-yaoi vid and one of the *only* Kuwa/Yukina vids in the world:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=15823
A great parody idea, could have been adorable and sweet - I've had so many requests for a remake of this one that I'm going to have to make another vid for the pairing - I can't leave the people who like this couple watching this fuzzy little vid as the only one. It makes me feel sick when I get people saying how much they enjoyed it - because it should have been so much better.

There is another vid that falls into this category, another Alanis vid, my vid #9. That is the only one I had the sense to hold onto, and those few people who saw the original version (a little 5mb wmv) still email me asking when I'll remake it. But I'm not going to do it until I know I won't waste the idea - I don't like looking at my first vids and how I ruined what should have been good amvs.

The idea isn't really the *worst* as in horrible videos. We see those all the time. People just randomly throwing footage together, awful fansubs, or even clips made out of other peoples videos.

My thought was that the video had/has a promise of being really cool, yet has some fatal flaw, usually part of the learning process. Basically videos that you WANT to like... yet are missing something.

Thanks for the examples Arigatomyna! Far from what I would call sucky, it's cool to see early samples of your work.

^_^ Those are the ones I want to redo the most - I love the concepts, the ideas, and I can't blame myself for not knowing better. I hadn't studied 'good' amvs when I made those, I was just going by footage, lyrics, idea. Looking back I'd say those are some of the 'best' worst vids I'd want to salvage. ^.~
