a nice little sujestion
ive noticed that people have recently started "almostcomplaining" about their vids being downloaded like 70 tiems and geting like 2 reviews. mabey thier should be a something that logs the username of every member that downloads someone's amv(for example "member X downloaded <amvname>) and the amv creator can see this long, so they can ask for personal oppinions like, on aim

1) No, it's annoying
2) This should go in 'Site Suggestions'
3) It's a 'suggestion'.
Oh god. I'm almostcomplaining again. Unhealthable trend.

Are you kidding? Really, that's a scary thought.
I'm sure there are people who download hundreds of vids and only review one or two of them - can you imagine the chaos if everyone started contacting those who downloaded their vids and didn't review them? We yell at people in the Op Exchange for asking for reviews without giving them, and we reproach people in the AMV Annoucement board for complaining that they've had a lot of downloads and no opinions yet - why do we do that? I thought it was because you should review if you want reviews. If you say anyone who downloads something should be harrassed until he reviews the vid, then it makes reviews cheap.
And maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing. Just imagine if everyone reviewed eveything they downloaded so he doesn't get harrassed by the creators. Every vid would have hundreds of reviews, the top list would have to be bumped up to 60+ to account for the average being so high. And with people feeling obligated to review everything, the reviews would get short, rushed, with less thought put into the scores. And eventually, a review would be like it is on fanfiction.net - "I liked it, nice job" or "it was okay" and nothing more - just a quick note to avoid the harassment of not having reviewed a vid you downloaded. This would take away the competition, would make reviews meaningless, and that could be a nice change in the way amvs are looked at.
But I don't think anyone really wants that to happen - at least not the people who direct new members to the top lists as if reviews mean something, and not to the people who give reviews because others value the feedback as something difficult to come by. If the average was 1 review per download, it would be meaningless after a few short weeks - and you can bet people *would* harrass the viewers if they knew exactly who had downloaded their vids.
Personally, I don't care. Even if I had a list of everyone who'd downloaded my vids, I'd never ask for a single review on any of them. If I want a forced review, I'll do an exchange. And I already try to review what I download, so all it would mean to me is that people complain and try to rush me since my feedback is slow in coming - either I'd have more to delete from my inbox (since I avoid aim), or I'd have to write quicker and more useless reviews. Knowing me, I'd ignore the complaints and keep doing what I do anyway. So really, it makes no difference to me.
It's just something you'd want to really think about before implementing.

As for the suggestion - why? Isn't the whole point of ops to be voluntary? I'd hate to be nagged by every next editor to give them ops. Hell, I still owe ops to vids I really liked but never got around to opping; I don't need to have a bunch of stalkers whom I might not neccesarily want to op

The star rating isn't voluntary - it was put into effect because people *didn't* review the vids they downloaded. By it's annonymous to make up for being forced...Otohiko wrote:Isn't the whole point of ops to be voluntary?
Take that how you will, stars = forced feedback, non-annonymous downloads = nearly forced feedback with your name attached to keep you from flaming out of hand.
