Egos?
While I've only been a member here for a few days, I've noticed a lot of self-praise, with people giving paragraphs of info in the "video comments" area, and talking about how they went about the WHOLE process of the creation of the AMV, or how great they think their own video is. I think most of us (even us noobs) already know that attempting to make a good AMV takes a lot of time and dedication (and I'm not saying that my first AMV is good, although it took me over a month to do). I guess I'm looking at the "video comments" section more as an artist statement; basically a brief statement of why the creator made the video, and what it might mean to them. I could be totally wrong about this, and of course people are free to blab all they want to about their videos...but my feeling is that it makes the artist a little less respectable when they talk about ME ME ME too much. Just a thought.

I've just been noticing very LARGE discriptions of things, that's all...it seems a bit self-centered.
BTW Fyrtenheimer, thanks for dl-ing my amv...it's nice to know what people think, good or bad. Really appreciate it.

What's wrong with having a large description of your own video?
I'd rather see 3 paragraphs of interesting coherent info than 4 sentences of

Its not the long self comments that annoy me its these that annoy me. Maybe not this paticular one but when the person thank yous greatly after every comment, it just gets annoying.Vesser wrote:

I think you misinterpret. I don't know about others, but I personally make very long video descriptions since well..the viewer didn't make the video and thus might wonder why I made certain choices for scenes. That's the exact purpose of the video description...you describe the video. I myself usually describe most of the scenes since well...there's always those two people in the world who might wonder why I chose Scene A over scene B or how I did effect C or effect D.Vesser wrote:I've just been noticing very LARGE discriptions of things, that's all...it seems a bit self-centered.
I don't think it's really self-praise or self-centered to explain your video and how you did things. Sometimes people wonder. In particular before reviewing a video, I look at the description so I don't miss something.

Well, see the
is an examle of the self-praise thing (only a shorter example). I suppose nothing is really wrong with having a large discription of the video, however if people see the video, most of it will be described through watching it. Maybe interesting info on how the creator did something that was really tricky is worth writing...so I agree with that. It could be that I might not want to read a long piece until after I watch the video.BEST VIDEO 3V4R!!!!!

The overall useage of large words and overbearing descriptions of one's videos is hypothetically a form of compensation. Whether it is compensation for a physical lacking, or possibly a mental lacking in unknown, although it can be said that the following things are true and unqiuely apply to many AMV creators, mainstream or otherwise.
Some lack the skills required to function correctly in a society of people who are like-minded to them.
Some are incapable a rational thought and are thus outcast in AMV society.
Some suffer from a superiority complex, and when compared to or questioned by someone lower on the totempole to them, they will lash out and make crude insults about a mother's fornication with a canine.
Without mentioning personages I am able to say that some of the AMV community are indeed inflicted with these personality traits, and like all kinds of communities there are many ways of dealing with and/or fixing these flaws. That is in the hands of many people who are higher up on the spectrum of control, although this spectrum of control is not concrete or even defined, it is almost unwritten.
In closing I would I like to say that the following things make me totally flip out and kick my mom in the head:
Ninjas
Hippos
Guitars
Porking

Re: Egos?
Shut the hell up NME
When I dl'ed yours, I dont even remember seeing a video description. That alone almost made me not dl it.
I think a lot of people look for those lengthy video descriptions. I want to know why you made your video. I find neway, or atleast for fucken amor, that I just started typing and everything else spilled out. I don't think ppl do it intentionally.
But there is the one case where this certain creater decided to do a daily journal of his video editing and throw it in his video description. It wasn't about why he made it, it was like:
1/03/03 I RIPPED MY FOOTAGE, THANK GOD LOL andabuchofotherbullshit x's 23 entries
that's crap ppl don't want to read.
I don't think you CAN do it in a brief statement.Vesser wrote: basically a brief statement of why the creator made the video, and what it might mean to them.
